vitamin B12

I've been receiving B12 shots for the last 5 months.  I keep hearing about all the extra energy we are suppose to have after the shots.  I don't.  I'm beginning to think there is something wrong.

I asked the nurse when the energy is suppose to kick in and she said shortly after I get the shot, like within a day.  Well, the last three times I notice that within two days I have a hard time staying awake.  At first I thought I wasn't getting enough sleep or something else has been going on.

I had a shot on Monday.  The day was normal... Tues was busy but nothing unusual.  Wed, Thurs. and today I keep wanting to lay down and sleep.  Actually, am having a hard time staying awake.

Has anyone else had this type of problem?  Am I missing something here?  Any ideas?

Millie,

I don't get the shots, instead, my dietitian said to take the B-12 sublingual twice a day. Total 5000 mg a day. It seems to be different for everybody and depends on labs, the doctor and dietitian. Just like every thing else concerning  WLS.

I have spells of feeling like I can't stay awake too. It starts with a feeling of extreme cold, then I have trouble keeping my eyes open. There is no pattern for time of day, activity or eating. It just happens.

Good luck. I hope somebody else pops in and can help.

 Thank You Annette,

I just don't know enough about the vitamin.  It may be a coincidence but it sure seems to be following a pattern.

It may not be the B12 thats the problem. You may be iron deficient, or potassium. I get that way when my potassium is low. Hav eyou had labs done recently? You might ask your doc about it.

Just my 2 cents.

Just had my labs done so I will find out soon.  Never thought of iron.  I eat a lot of bananas so potassium should be ok.....

thanks for the input....  I appreciate it.

I've read several times and from reputable sources that we'd have to eat about a zillion (maybe not quite, but a lot) of bananas to get enough potassium from those. My husband takes an over the counter supplement of potassium which seems to have helped his leg cramps.

I've never had a "power surge" from my shots. I do weekly, so I hope it's because i'm holding a steady good level vs. dropping thru the floor and the shot sending me skyward. I'd rather be reaching for the sky daily.

Folic and/iron and/or D/Calcium and/or protein can all be dragging you down, as well.

There are support group meetings here in Puyallup this week, Tues/Wed 7pm, support persons welcome. It'd be interesting to toss that concept around.

P.S.  My year + long absence has NOTHING to do with my WLS, or my type of WLS. See my profile.

 Hi Michelle,

I had labs done recently but don't have the results back yet.  It'll be interesting to see what they show.   Last April I was fine...

How often are the support meetings in Puyallup?  And where?  I will not be able to attend this week but maybe the next ones I can make.

Thanks for the information.

Millie
