Ok so is this for us old farts?
Thanks for the welcome! Glad to know I found it..
I am 55 and live in Boca Raton, FL. I had RNY on July 16. Because of a high white blood cell count (twice the top normal level), I was in the hospital 5 days. The surgeon found no leaks, so I was discharged. Within a week I was back in ER with an infection at one of the incision sites. The infection had gone into the abdominal wall. So then I was in the hospital 4 days and went home with a pic line for IV antibiotics. Im off the IV now, but still take augmentin for 4 more days.
I'm extremely tired, and have been a bit blue. I did join a gym today, thinking that in a week I might go try the incumbant bicycle at least.

Welcome Jeane! You've found the right spot. Congrats on your recent surgery. Being a bit blue is not a bit unusual. Your body and mind have been through some pretty extraordinary alterations.
Don't push the physical activity too hard. Perhaps some slow treadmill walking or just walking outside if it isn't too hot. Just noticed where you live; so perhaps a nice air conditioned gym?
It takes a while to feel like you kind of have it figured out; try not to be too hard on yourself. There is usually someone here chatting all hours so come to OFF with questions, for conversations, to give and get support. Best wishes,
Karen C
Thank you all for your kind welcome. I am hanging in there, and will be very glad when I am off antibiotics and regain a little energy.
I joined the gym starting next week - I plan on going slow, but I need to start something. The bicycle should be relatively easy. I have already started arm exercises with 5 pound weights - light, but it's a start. I still have a wound in my stomach from the infected incision - I'm hoping that will close/heal soon. It was very deep, and now is relatively shallow but not yet closed.
Right now, what I want most is just some energy. So I'm taking vitamins, VIt-B12, protein etc etc.
I realized today though that I was taking only half the vitamins I was supposed to be taking each day... I chewed one and should have had 2 a day. Maybe that will make a difference.

Hi Jeane,
I live on the other side of the state of Florida from you. I am on the Gulf side in Bradenton.
Welcome to our world. We have a great time.
I had infections in my incision when I had my surgery 7 years ago. It does get better in due time.
Ask questions and we will answer them.
Welcome aboard.
Carla

Welcome, Jeane,
Sounds as though you've had quite a time so far. It will get better.
Exercise will help when you're up to it. Just don't push too hard at first, and make sure to clear it with your doc. I started off with aqua aerobics -- so much gentler on the joints! I am now able to use the treadmill, but I still prefer the whole-body toning effects that the water provides.
Yes, you are tired -- look what you've been through! And being blue is not unheard of, either. You should be feeling better as your body adapts to its new status.
Glad you've joined us Old Farts!

Yes, this is it for sure. In fact, some of us are over 60. I don't think we have any active members over 70, but mabye... Since we tend to hang around a looonnnnnnngggg time, sooner or later we'll have octogenarians among us! That being said, age is just a number & doesn't really tell you too much about the person. WELCOME TO OFF !!!!
