Exercise

How did you all begin to exercise after WLS?

I am only 3-1/2 weeks out (RNY July 16), and I had an infection that set me back.  But I have started to do arm curls - exercising biceps and triceps.   I joined a gym to start on Aug 15 (after I get off of antibiotics !!), and plan to start slow with the recumbant (sp?) bicycle.

I remember that I used to love to jog and work out - but that was 10 years ago.  It's been a long time since I've exercised at all.

Slow and easy, congrads on the surgery. I certainly give you alot of credit for doing the arm exercising. Seems like you are a go getter.

Thanks.  The arm exercising is a small thing, but a place to start.

Tonight I am having pain in my stomach that is nearly excruciating.  just started.

I can't tell if it is gas, or what - first time I've had this kind of pain.

I started on the recumbant bike.  Started out doing about 15 minutes, worked it up to 35 minutes or so.  Sometimes I do the circuit machines.  Not often enough according to my doctor.  But he says he only says that to have something to pick on.  He knows I work 65-70 hours a week so I don't have much time for the gym.  One of these days I will start to find time again.

I have been thinking of starting to jog again.  It is just too hot here to do that right now.

GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!!!

I used to love to jog - and jogged regularly.  Then my knees gave out and sounded like rice krispies.
Then I went back to school, became sick and gained a ton of weight.   I doubt I will ever jog again, but who knows?

If it is anywhere near as hot in TX as it is in south Florida, it's too hot to breathe outside.

I started walking right from the start....one block at a time....I was up to 3 miles every morning...Monday through Friday. Walking is great exercise not to mention it is an awesome time to be alone with your thoughts. This was my prayer time.

Then broke my hip...UGH!!  At eight weeks out I am still not able to walk for long periods of time....I don't like it!!!!

Hugs....connie d

It's too hot to exercise outside here (Southern Florida).  I can go to the gym.
Last night about 1 AM I walked about six blocks total - and that was still hot.
Next week I will go to the gym - am going to start on recumbant bicycle.  My gym membership starts Aug 15.

Connie, sorry to hear about your hip.  Take care with that.  HIp fractures can be nasty.

HI!
I"m in Florida too......where are you?  I'm on the west coast about 45 miles north of Tampa.

WOW, walking at 1am.......that's dedication!  I've never done that!

It's hot here but I'm riding my bike in the morning.  I normally leave the house about 7am but am going to try to get out by 6:30 or even 6:15 tomorrow to see if it's a bit cooler.  I'm currently in a compression garment after surgery 2 weeks ago so it is way too hot riding outside but I don't want to skip my cardio........

I'm in South Florida - Boca Raton, land of all show and no substance.  oops

This is a very hot summer.  It's deadly.  I also take plaquenil (for lupus) and I can't be in the sun.  But sunny or not, it is just HOT.  It was hot at 1 AM.   (By the way, 1 AM is easier for me than 6:00 AM).
When I worked for corporations I had "regular" hours, but I left that to begin a new career.  I have worked for myself for the last few years and I work when I want to work.  This last month has hurt, of course, since I have not been working since RNY surgery.

What surgery did you have?

Small world........I was diagnosed with Lupus back in 1976.........I had many years of flare ups but have been told I'm in remission for a few years now.  Two dr's question if I even have or had Lupus saying testing back then was pretty poor so it might be a false positive.  Of course that doesn't answer what all the pain was from and when I ask the Dr's they don't have answers.  So I act cautiously stay pretty covered and do not soak up the sun.......

Congrats on starting your own business.  I'd love to do that next year........I'm a little afraid to take such a risk but do think I will do something once I'm done with all this plastic surgery.

Best wishes to you!!
