Program to use for virus protection?

Hi
The program that I've used for protection against computer viruses is running out (avast).  The program was free, but I went to the website, and it looks like it isn't free anymore.  Does anyone use avast?  Is it still available free?  What is the url you use for the site?
If you don't use avast, what program do you use?
I got to get moving on this soon before mine runs out.
Thanks.
Margaret

When I use to use virus protection programs (don't anymore) I use to use AVG. Loved it, never crashed with it like Norton's or Symantec....it was/is free also.

Margaret, I use the AVG free edition too. I think it is great and the nice thing is they update everyday. Then when the free edition upgrades they let you know automatically too. I think they are great. I have used it for a long time. My cable company (who I have my internet through) offers Norton (I think it is Norton they offer) suites free of charge but they slow my computer down so bad and they create such a mess that I took it off and did the free AVG. I have had no problems with it either. I highly reccomend it. Can you tell?

I started using it when it first came out, I know all my friends in OZ use it also. I've not had to use any for about 3 years now...so that's nice.

I have used and still use AVAST,,and it is still available free for home use. Once a year your registration number will run out, but you just go to the site and get a new one. The site is www.avast.com
At the top of the page you will see free software,,,click on that,,its the free antivirus download.

It is also available to purchase more detailed editions as well as business editions...but the home software is free,,and excellent. In one of the computer magazines that I read, it was voted as one of the top five free antivirus sotwares available. I have had it for years, and never had a virus.

Good luck!
