Program to use for virus protection?

I also use AVG. My computer geek put it on my computer; it's free and runs great. He also put on spybot (spyware program) and my second computer geek (more reliable guy ... didn't have to wait for three months to get my computer back) put this program called malwarebytes on my computer that gets even worse stuff off your computer. (This was when I couldn't sign on to the Internet at all.) He said it's like taking a gun to a knife fight. What the virus checker misses, this thing would knock off.

Another vote for AVG, free version here too.  I use my computer for work and need good protection. 

i too use AVG ..according to my son it and its programs arent as well known to hackers yet so that is why it runs faster and better....once it get as well known as Norton then they will be hacking it too. hmmm??? anyway i use the free version and it attacks and captures things
