Aloha Carla and OFF family.....

Carla...I get tired when I think about all the traveling you do. I used to love to travel.....no more. In January I will be going to Calif. to stay with my three little grandsons while my son and DIL go on their yearly ski trip, and I can't wait to see grandkids, but hate the thought of the travel to get there.

Dealing with the depression is giving me hope....and probably reason for much of my not want to travel, be social, etc. I'm only a few days into the meds and was told it would take three weeks before they kicked in. I'm waiting!!

My neighbor and very dear friend is VERY ILL. Yesterday she had a doc appointment and I told her that I would take her. I don't think she could have driven herself anyway. She's 84 and very weak, frail, and extremely depressed. I went in with her to talk to the doc and he really made me angry. Said "we'll get you through this current coughing/wheezing and then we'll deal with the depression." Well, he gave her antidepressants FIVE MONTHS AGO! They aren't working!! I thought she should go to the hospital, but he didn't so I took her to get xray and bloodwork and both places were closed for lunch....so we went to Walmart to get her meds and the wait was 1.5 hours!! She and I were both exhausted so came home. I went back to Walmart later in the day and got her meds, and this morning I will take her back to get xrays and bloodwork. She can barely walk so I hate to have to drag her out again, but she needs these tests. The whole situation is sad, sad, sad.

Brenda.....I hate hearing that your are hurting. You are so brave and strong to do all that you do even when hurting. Makes me feel like a wimp whining about my depression.

Margo......you have your hands full, too. Hopefully Michael isn't in agony for two weeks!! What is up with these docs who don't control pain???

Jeannie.....your kitty story made me smile. When I lived in Santa Cruz I had a beautiful black female kitty named Sophie. Well, I brought home a teeny tiny little black boy kitty and did what you are doing...put him in a bedroom. They did the "dance" of "talking" to each other through the door, and paws swiping at each other under the door. When I finally opened the door, Sophie pounced on "Maui" and then became his mother!! She no longer cared about me....HE was her world. She would lick him until I thought he would lose all his hair....LOL He was the best thing I ever did for her....but I sort of lost her in the process. Good luck with your two.

Soon I'm off to Kaiser for an appointment. Then back home to pick up my friend. Not looking forward to the day.....mostly looking forward to afternoon nap. So sorry for unpleasantness.....just my life right now.

There are so many posts I would like to respond to individually, but just can't right now. Know that you are all so very special to me...and I care about what is happening in your lives very much. My magic wand is broken or all of you struggling in any way would suddenly be happy, healthy, and rich!! In the meantime.....here comes a hug....all I have to give right now.

Aloha nui loa,

Maui Karen

Last nite was another sleepless disaster.....I finally drifted off around 2 a.m. and was awake at 6:30.   I went into work early because I had to leave at 10 for the trip to K'zoo and the ortho doc.   Got an excellent report on the hip and we talked and talked about the drop foot problem.   He was truly apologetic and told me this had only happened 5 or 6 times in all his years of practice (I've been with him 20 yrs) and only happened on revision surgeries because of the scar tissue.  He said he had been thinking a lot about me and I believe he was sincere.....he feels the sciatic nerve is healing (it heals from hip to toes) and I should be back to normal in a couple months.  I feel better after sharing my concerns with him.   Oh yeah, Connie, he did say I could discontinue the hip exercises if I wanted to, but it wouldn't hurt to do them once in a while.   I still have to sleep with a pillow between my knees if I lay on my left side, otherwise most restrictions are lifted except crossing my legs at the knees - which is a forever no=no.

We got back around 1:15 and I grabbed some lunch....now I am leaning toward laying down for a while to see if I can get in a little nap.

Brenda -- hope your trip to the I.D. doc was good and sure hope you start feeling better soon.....are you taking tylenol??  Our whole bodies ache when we take a tumble like you did.

It's still hot and humid here today -- temps in the mid 80's.

Best wishes to all,
Pat R.

Pat, Sounds like a good doctor report on the whole. I had to chuckle when you were told to not cross your legs at the knee. Darn it all! Just when you can again and now you can't! Life just isn't fair is it?
