another protein powder question

So I've been thinking ... I'm lactose intolerant now and I can't imagine that's going to change any after I get my RNY ... should I even bother getting samples of the whey protein powders? Or should I see if I can find various soy protein samples - like Genisoy?  Does anyone who has lactose intolerance use unflavored Unjury?  I keep hearing that's a good one to have on hand.  What do you think?

I use Unjury chocolate mixed with my coffee and sometimes a banana blended into it and the vanilla mixed with Crystal Light flavors, usually orange or berry, also good with a banana in it.  The drinks have to be very cold or they don't taste very good.  I know people like the unflavored mixed into puddings, soups, etc., but I don't use it.

My favourite protein drink, yes, even in the summer time, is MATRIX hot choclate protein powder..I amke it with skim milk powder.  I never used to be lactose-intolerant but in the last two years, I have found that I often get terrible gas pains after consuming any milk.

So, to just keep things easy, instead of struggling with other products, I stick with the one I like best and just take a LACTAid pills with my protein drink...just makes things easier for me *s*.

Tell your doc hi for us, ok?

I am lactose intolerant, was before surgery, also. Then I might've been able to have a dish made with milk. Now, no way. Can't even have ranch dressing unless I make it myself.

I only use low lactose wheys. If, when we test (live support groups) anyone bloats, it's out. The ones I can see from here are all less than 1g lactose, or they can't even claim low lactose.

Lactose is the sugar that WAS in the milk, so you'll note that most good whey products are 0-3g sugars for 30g protein (when made in water)

Soy, OTOH, tore my guts up and the exit routine wasn't so pleasant, either. Think "sand paper". LOL

Thanks, Michelle .. I had no idea there were low lactose wheys.  I'll have to search them out!

the ones that Michelle sells on her Vitalady site are all low lactose. on using soy protein.   Whey protein is the only one that our bodies utalize 100% according to JOHN HOPKINS MEDICAL STUDY.
