OT---shoudda saw this coming
We won't tell Gary! Wow, still doing hair at 93. Well, I used retired in a very loose sense of the word. Several times during all the years he did my hair, he'd up and quit for a couple of weeks and come back. Apparently a customer really hurt his feelings - I never found out just what went on. He quit again and this time his significant other who is retired navy told him not to go back.
debbie-my mother (adopted) went to the same gal for over 30 years--terri was a dream!!!!she did my hair when i was a youngster sporting a DA and she cut mine (all 18 inches) off after high school! when mom was in the nursing home and we visited first time(hadn't seen her in almost 2 years) the very first thing i noticed was the lack of hair coloring (she was a pretty red for eons!!!) and the lack of styling--i almost didn't recognize her!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i had one such dream stylist--and am so sorry to have lost her- but i moved out of the marriage and out of the state .....i, too, could say fix me--and she knew exactly what to do--i have some cowlicks and lotsa natural curl and wave --oh-and i could call almost last minute and say that "if you don't get me in i may have to pick up my scissors"--poof! i was in!!!!! never waited - i always tipped well and she was wonderful to talk to -or not!!!!

I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult.

Of course if our valued customer indeed needs to be rescheduled,we are happy to do that,the funds are payed before the service is rendered of course".
Susan,I have been in the world of business for over 43 years! You let your customer know that you know your own worth. This works out wonderfully,what customer does not appreciate a cute little nail file set,or lotion,because they are VALUED as YOU are!!

Of course you will know your customers where this is not necessary,and they will feel honored....smile.

I used to charge prom and homecoming girls a 50% deposit when they booked their appointments. They were netorious for not showing, and one of them would make an appointment for themselves and 3 of their friends, to boot. One Saturday during the fall I had 6 of them not show. That did it, deposits from then on. My brides pay me $100 for their consultations (or can be used for their portrait sitting) and the day of the wedding. Cuts down on Bridzillas. If I leave the salon, even if it's a mile down the road, it's another hundred bucks. Oh, and it's 50% at the time of the first visit.

Linda, it took me 33 yrs to get to where I am. I'm able to charge top dollar for what I do, and folks don't bat an eye at my prices. I used to be concerned how someone would pay what I ask, but you know, it's not my business how they pay for it, is it? I have a client who is about to be in forclosure, but she still gets her hair and nails done. I've kind of asked her about it, telling her if she needs to hold off on something I'll understand. She just said that the $35 for her nails wouldn't put a dent in her house payment, so what good would it do? Okay, never brought it up agiain.
