Jeane, the Linda that starts the thread is Linda Spellman and she is from Arizona. It sometimes is easy to get confused with all the names...heck sometimes I still do! Don't feel bad..I wish I could say that it gets easier but what can I say..after almost 2 years I still get mixed up. Oh well...I know that I am Brenda Russell and that is good!

That's what I thought - that Linda is in AZ; so this makes sense.

I am concerned about Linda Spellman.   I need to find her no and give her a call.

Hi Jani

I am pretty much there with you.  I had ensure for breakfast, only 2oz and tuna for lunch and squash.  No money yet to go shopping so I am doing what I can to get by.

Hang in there

We can make it through this time..

Dear Mary G,I live alone and am on certified medical through my job,so I get 65 percent of my pay to live on,so I understand. If you can handle milk, get some, plus some powdered to go with it. If you like chocolate, get yourself an old fashioned tin of it. Mix the cocoa while it is hot,you can make a bunch of it,just with water. Make a shake,8 oz regular milk,4oz regular milk,if you can use artificial sweetener, put it in. Add ice, either blend or shake hard. It will be a delicious, high protein shake, our bodies can take in a certain amount of protein and the rest goes to waste. If you like mashed potatoes, make some...add cheese if you want, and once again you have some good, cheap protein. I am not a doctor,I am sharing info given to me by my doc, nutritionist. I even used unsweetened orange kool aid because it reminded me of this orange ice cream I loved. you do not have to eat fancy and expensive to be sucessful, trust me on this baby, and I am happy to help in any way I can.

Hi Linda,
we are just going through some rough times right now.  Your ideas sound great.  I am doing pretty good and I thank you for your support.  It really does help to have someone understand what you are going through.  I will have to look for the unsweetned koolaid next time I go to the store.  Sounds reallly good.

I can drink milk which is good.  I do have some powder protein and I drink two glasses of day.  I mix it with 1% milk.

Thanks again for your support.  I really mean it

Jan, sometimes ruts are good and other times they aren't. I think that food ruts can get to us all after a while. It is sometimes hard to become inventive with food when your menu is somewhat limited. I loved my protein shakes before surgery but I was told that your tastes change after surgery and since then I can't stand them. I don't know why but they taste so gritty to me and they never did before...and they were the same kind and flavor. Just the thought of them now turns my stomach.

I had a lot of beef and barley soup, split pea soup and re fried beans with cheese. Just ideas...but not sure if you thought of those. I heard that you had some pita bread and hummus and that was alright...so that is good.

Wishing you luck...just keep doing what you are doing and things will be fine!

I feel the same way.  I really liked the shakes b4 surgery and now....  They are gritty when you get close to the bottom.  When I first start on them they're ok, but by the time I get down to the end I'm sick of it.  I think I'll do more soups.  Is there enough protein to get your daily requirement in?  I'll have to look.  I love almost any kind of soup.  I've had the refried beans with cheese and salsa.  Yum.  Tonight I tried PotStickers, which I absolutely love.  Well, after 1 I got that feeling.  Went into the bathroom, but kept it down.  I figure it was the dumpling dough, so I took the chicken and veggies out and ate that without any problem.  I guess it's true what everyone says about pasta.  I still haven't tried any regular bread yet.  Tomorrow I may try a piece of Ezekiel bread toasted with peanut butter.
Thanks for the hints.  Hopefully I can break out of this slump (stall) soon.  It's been 5 days now.

Connie, I am so glad that you are feeling better and getting out and about. How is the hip feeling now? Is it feeling normal of still some pain? It is amazing to me how fast they can do the rehab for hip surgery now. I use to have patients that were in nursing homes and rehabs for a looong time. You did really well. I am so glad.

Have a great week end and yours sounds busy..and busy fun is always good.

Keeping everyone in my prayers....
