Trouble getting 3 meals a day

Has anyone had this problem?  I have had trouble getting 3 meals a day in - I just can't seem to do it...

Is there actually a need to have 3 meals ?   Would 2 meals be sufficient?   Obviously, if one snacks nonstop or gets so hungry that junkfood beckons, but so far this is not happening.

What do you all think?

Depends ... are you getting in enough protein?

I think the idea behind 3 meals is so you don't graze ... also, at least as far as my nutritionist was concerned, the idea behind 3 meals and a snack was to make us (as in WLS post-ops) feel as much like "normal" eaters ... who eat 3 meals and a snack for the most part, not 6 small meals. But I think the important part is not to feel hungry, to get in your protein and nutrients and not to graze.

When you get further out you will find that you need about 5-6 small meals to help with the hypogylcemia...

i second what darlene said--mini meals will help the blood sugars stay even--but newly out-yes- you need your 3 meals so you don't overdo on any of the few you have-and to get the protein....and to keep your head on straight like eileen suggested-
hm...guess i coulda just said "ditto".....

ya know- a meal does not have to be full courses- a meal could simply be some protein and a veggie or ......

I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult.

Jeane,

We only absorb a small amount of protein at one time. Packing it all into 2 meals wouldn't give you the required nutrients.

Smaller amounts, more frequently are easier to swallow  (pun).

It gets easier as time passes.

I've always done mini meals.  I would make sure you do the mini meals and avoid grazing.  Grazing is not a good habit to get into because after your honey moon phase, grazing will slow down your weight loss.

Hi Jeane
When you eat are you trying to keep your meals to 3 or 4 oz at this point. You are only a month out from your surgery. It gets easier down the road. Take it slow & no more than 6 oz. at one time at this point. I no it does not sound like a lot, but, you should be full with that this early in your journey. Later when it counts & harder is when
those 3 meals & snack work so much better if you learn now.
I no you are feeling right not that some things you can never have again. It's a normal thing to cope with this early. Try & keep the junk food out of your house, so you are
not tempted to go there. We no what got us to having this surgery in the first place, so
you have to learn to eat healthy to make this all work for your best benifit.

I just had breakfast - 1 egg with cheese.

That's about the size of a meal I have.  Very little.  With chicken, I have the equivalent of about 3 tpbs.

I drink protein shakes during the day - usually 2.

That is about right for this early out. It gets better. Don't pu****  Don't fret over the 3 meals so much as eating when you can & protein first. For sure do not drink with your meal. You are doing fine!!

i do 4-6. Maybe the size is what's throwing you off? I'm not a natural grazer, so eating every 1/2 hr isn't even an option. I'm naturally a volume eater, rather eat once and git r done.

I do the small meals every 2-3 hrs to keep me from mowing down the whole frig or worse. KWIM?

But my "meals" are even now, still a token, in comparison
