Jeanne, I sure hope that you continue to feel better. I know that asthma is awful and I have chf too and when that use to come on I wanted to die. No two ways about that. I am thankful that the asthma doesn't bother me much.

But the steroids are the worse..I hate taking them but sometimes they are the best of the worst if you know what I mean.

Take care of yourself and get well.

It's not what you gather, but what you scatter
that tells what kind of life you have lived.

My father gave me the same treatment with the Vicks and ho****er, but this was for a cold not asthma.  I don't think that it did anything for me, but it made him feel like he was doing something!

Good morning Margaret and my dear OFFer's!

It is a glorious morning here in Central AR. No humidity, about 70 and a slight breeze blowing through my open windows. Mornings like this never happen in August, so I'm going to enjoy every minute I can.

Oh Margaret, I so wish I could have a worker bee like yours to come do things around our house. It's not that we're not capable of it, we just don't DO it. Now that the two SILs are coming we need to get going around here. We have so much crap around here!  We just now were talking about going to the storage garage to clean it out. Looks like my beautiful day will be a dusty one...lol

Okay.....off to do breakfast and get moving. Hope everyone has a wonderful day. Know I love you all like the sisters I wish my parents had given me!

Go for it Susan!
I have never had such a clean, well organized, clutter-free house as I have now.
Chris, the young guy who  helped me, has great skills and stepped in when I couldn't or didn't want to.  He organized me in a way that is very helpful especially since I will soon be bringing home hundreds of papers and tests that will have to be marked and kept in an organized fashion.
He and I cleaned out a storage unit that I had had for 1.5 years.  We brought everything home, and I went through the stuff and decided what I wanted to keep and what I wanted to give away.  Our local St. V. deP has benefited greatly from my down-sizing.  It's been very cleansing.

HI All
It's Sunday & yes, headed to Church later. My week goes so much better if I don't
miss Church. I slept pretty good for a change (no Nightmares at least).
Starting to feel much better since the iron & more B-12 for the past week. I need to get some Vit C today, so the Iron will obsorb better.
We had a nice rain yesterday & temps not even over 90, which for us here in AZ is a big thing this time of year. Will most likely be back over 100 today, but, it was a nice
day.
Have a great day!!

Good morning, Margaret and  you wonderful OFF'ers....

Wish I'd had a 'young man working with me' all summer...... boy, would I have kept HIM busy!!!  Would have appreciated the brawn with no brains.....

Speaking of which....several years ago I had a guy that used to mow my grass on Saturday mornings.... oh... my.....always showed up in short cutoffs and t-shirt with the arms cut out so his MUSCLES showed....he let me sleep in....and mowed everything but under my window....and I knew when he mowed under the window he wanted breakfast.....:)  Was really great and the neighbor women were sure envious........ YARD WORK ONLY, GIRLS...

Margaret, when I see your post about 'waiting' I'm wondering if it's because you have socialized medicine?

I slept in today and then went to the grocery before going to $4.  I'm trying to get away from my routine as much as possible.  Son has gotten a life and I know he's been my 'crutch' for years and probably would think it's kept him by himself too, but I doubt he would have tried to get out.  Finally met a really neat gal and they are going out....a lot.... so I've got to 'get a life' and I really don't know how anymore.

Made some scrambled eggs this morning w/cheese and put it in a flour tortilla made with Hatch chilis... delicious but I couldn't eat all of it... thank goodness.  I seem to be able to hold more than I want to... so trying to do better.

Brother is coming over for me to do his resume so maybe he can find work.  Then I'm planning to finish the laundry, clean the bathrooms, and work on my bedroom.  September 5 is getting here really quick and I'll have out-of-town company until the 13th.  Will be a great time but want everything done so I don't have to worry about it and can just enjoy myself. Will be doing a lot of late night hours for work, tho, since someone will be handling my portfolio.  May need to work a little while I'm off to make sure that I can make goal.  It's always something, isn't it?

Everyone have a good day.

No  It's not socialized medicine that has caused the wait.
I'm waiting for surgery because this province was slow in realizing that bariatric surgery would take off as it has.   There haven't been enough surgeons who were trained and ready to start in this province.  OHIP, which covers every health expense, doctor's visit, test, etc. in Ontario whether the person is working or not, is spending millions to send people to Michigan, New York and Minnesota to have the surgery.  These are people with comorbidities and need the surgery as soon as possible.  I don't have the same problems as others - no diabetes, sleep apnea, high cholesterol, etc., so I couldn't convince OHIP that I needed the surgery immediately and to send me to Michigan, the closest state.  So I've had to wait for surgery with an Ontario surgeon who has had a long line of people waiting for this surgery.
The problem with the lack of bariatric surgeons is changing here quickly.  Several centres have opened up and people are getting in sooner.

The process of applying for out of country wls surgery, including appealing, too****il January of this year.  The actual wait with my surgeon started with my referral to him in Jan.09.  In June I saw him in Toronto, and I will have the surgery by the end of the year.
I know that there is a lot of discussion in the US about socialized medicine.  I saw the commercial made by a Canadian who couldn't get her surgery here soon enough.  She's become very well known and many of us are pissed off with the inaccurate way she has portrayed health care here.

I am very satisfied with OHIP.  I've been sent for an MRI, CT scan, xrays, tests, etc. and never had to wait nor did I have to pay.  I can't tell you how many CT scans I've had over the years, but it would have cost me  a fortune if I'd had to pay for them and the surgeries that I've had.

I had breast cancer, as did my sister, five years ago, had all the necessary screening and had surgery immediately.  Everything was done in good time and I was very satisfied.

I can't fault socialized medicine at all.  I've never been denied any type of test; as a matter of fact, I have a doctor who listens to me (most of the time) and will send me for any test that I think relevant at no cost.

I teach sociology and have become more aware of the differences between the US medical situation and the Canadian; as well, I was married to an American and lived in Michigan for a few years.  When I did my internship for my MSW (Masters degree in Social Work), I did it at a hospital in downtown Detroit.  What I saw was a very sad situation for the poor who couldn't afford the medical attention they needed.  I have to say that I am much happier with our system.  I don't want to ruffle any feathers, but I wouldn't change ours.  I could write a book on the problems that I have seen with the American system
Margaret
PS  I just read that someone, who is having wls at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, has waited since January and will probably have wls around the same time that I will.  We've waited the same length of time  -  she's waited for an American hospital and I've waited for a Canadian.

I really appreciate your thoughtful reply! This craziness about Obama's health care overhaul is just sooo American! We have tied Obama in knots and the important business of changing what doesn't work is almost impossible - everyone has vested interests, money (lobbies), and politics make the system unworkable I'm afraid.

THANK YOU FOR GIVING US A CLEAR PICTURE OF YOUR HEALTHCARE IN CANADA!!!

I've had a lot of questions and you have certainly answered a lot of them for me.

Would you mind if I cut and pasted your response without names, of course, to a few friends of mine who would be interested?  I would never do it without your permission.

Janet - not a problem.  I have taken out the name of the hospital I interned at.
Margaret
PS the only thing that I have ever had to pay for was a note from my doctor for work - I think that it cost $10.00.  My income is well over the national average and if anyone had to pay for medical services, it would be me, but I never have.
