Need a Quick Answer!!
I am scheduled to have a colonoscopy Thursday morning. Well, hubby just went and picked up the prep for that..and I was reading the side effects. it said "Can cause severe bloating of the stomach and intestines,,"...so my question is,,is this safe for me?? What about thelittle pouch? Will it distend and stretch? I'm really scared now,,,has anyone one here had one recently, or at least since your WLS?
Help!!

Hi Betsy,
I had one about a year ago. I'm assuming you told your Gastro that you had rny? They gave me a different "prep" than non WLS patients and I was fine. Well, as fine as you can be!
You don't start it until tomorrow, right? You might feel better calling the Dr's office first thing in the a.m. to be sure.

I had one a year after my WLS and told the GI doc I had WLS ... they gave me a special prep. (Fortunately, the GI doc was affiliated with the same group as the bariatric center, MMPC.) I didn't have to drink all that liquid, just take a couple of pills and drink some ginger ale (sugar-free, of course). It was much easier on my tummy (or pouch).
I had had a colonoscopy pre-WLS and it was much worse.

Thanks so much for getting back to me soon,,Ill call in the morning! I have a tablet to take in the afternoon,,a gallon of liquid to get down and 8 Dulcolax pills!! I told them I had Gastric Bypass, and they are affiliated with the Bariatric Center, but I'm gonna call to make sure its ok. That is gonna be hard to drink all that with a little pouch I would think.
Ill let ya know..
I love this group!

Betsy,
I just had one recently. My doctor prescribed Moviprep, mixed with a liter of water. One liter to drink the night before, the other the morning of the colonoscopy. No way could I consume the entire amount. He told me to do my best.
The flavor was salty, sweet and lemony. It did not cause discomfort or bloating, just the expected results. I think any bowel prep must include that warning.
I kept reminding the doctor that I had RNY and to be extra careful. He patted my hand and assured me he knew that. They used a pediatric scope on me. Once the Versed was started, I remember nothing!
Good luck - it's not all that bad. The anticipation is the difficult part.

This prep conxixts of a pill to take at 4 PM,,then a gallon of liquid to begin drinking at 6 PM,and Im supposed to drink it as fast as I can..,and then 8 Ducolax pills to take!! Whew! Sure sounds like a lot for my rearranged plumbing! But, Im gonna call the surgeon right now. Im not really nervous about the test,,just this crazy prep messing up something!
Thanks all of you, you have really helped. Ill let you know what he says!
Blessings

I used Phospho soda for one (1.5 oz + 8 oz liquid)- twice.
And Magnesium Citrate (liquid, in the bowel prep row), about 8 oz in 8 oz - twice - for the other. I've heard phospho soda is off the market, now. Believe me, I preferred the PS because the total intake was 8 oz.
Twice.
no way i'd have gotten a gallon down.

P.S. My year + long absence has NOTHING to do with my WLS, or my type of WLS. See my profile.
