Vitamin D and B 12 levels. . .

My PCP's office called with my Vitamin D and B12 level test results. The numbers are: B12: 1457 and Vitramin D: 43. The nurse said those were within the normal range. So can someone give me a number for each to help me understand where I am in the range?

Karen,

Ask for a copy of the results to keep on file. My lab reports always include the ranges.

I looked up the chart from the ASMBS recomendations. (Darlene or Vita Lady probably can answer best though)

Here is what was on the list:
B-12 - 200 - 10000
D - 25 - 40

Annette, I got a copy of all of the other results. They forgot to do the B12 and D when they ran those. I will keep copies of all work from now on. I am going to finally get around to doing a spreadsheet for the past 5 years worth so that I can watch for "trends." Wow, the B12 range is huge! My D is 43. Can it be too high? Here in the summer I get lots of sunshine. In the winter it's sunny many days but we're so far north that I doubt if I get as much. Hopefully I'll be like a squirrel storing nuts; try to store some of that D for the dark, short days ahead. Thanks Annette,

I actually got my D up to 173, almost toxic. As far as I'm concerned (like I KNOW what I'm talking about...HA) the higher the better. I've stopped taking the D for awhile to get it down. I'm happy when it's around 70. Michelle/Darlene can help better then me.

My doc was thrilled when my B-12 was above 2,000. No need to worry, you'll get rid of what your body doesn't need.

vit D 25?

some lbs show the latest 32-150
some show the last latest before that, 32-100
some still show antique levels, 20-80

You want to be 80-120

****
b12, most show appx 200-900. Old, old range

you want to be over 1000, preferably closer to the 2000 where you were born

Your B12 is nice. I still don't like your vit D. How much are you taking now?

Michelle, I'm just taking one of the Tender D3-5 which is 5000 IU. So should I start taking 2 a day of those?
