Magic Bullet
I LOVE my magic bullet. It really mixes up the powders quickly (10 seconds) I use it at least twice a day. I do have a blender, but the bullet is better. You don't need every container that comes with it, so if you can buy a small set go for it. You don't need the 21 pc set. My family likes making frozen margaritas with it.

I don't know about where you live but my Wal Mart carries a magic bullet but it isn't the name brand. You can get it a lot cheaper if that is the route that you end up taking. I never used one, I always used a blender that I got at Wal Mart and paid about $20 for it. I like it, though I don't do shakes any more. I just don't like them since they make me sick to my stomach. Not sure why but they do.
I've got a stick blender (some call it a "boat motor") that I love. Makes great breakfast smoothies/protein shakes. Puree frozen fruit or a few ice cubes for a thick, icy texture. Include flax seed meal or benefiber, too. Chocolate protein powder and a few frozen sweet cherries blended with water or milk and some raspberry SF syrup . . .
Sorry, got carried away! Anyway, I like the versatility of the stick blender. Puree a little or a lot, it's super easy to clean, hangs on the wall in its own rack instead of taking counter or cabinet space. Mine came with a 16 oz cup. I do my protein drink and take it with me to drink on the way to work. Breakfast on the go!
Depending on your surgeon's post-op diet plan, you may find it handy to have a means to puree food (soups, etc.) in the weeks after surgery.
Stick blenders can be had for a reasonable price. Got mine years ago, but I think it was around $20 at the time.
