Susan,

I'm so sorry about your loss.  We had our dog of 15 years put down in December.  They are surely part of our families with each loving wag and lick!  Hope your broken heart mends soon!

Blessings

You were wonderful to share only the best sofas with him.  It proves how special he was.

My heart goes out to you.  I've never lost a pet, and can only imagine your sadness.

Believe me, there was NO sharing involved. He took it all for himself. Chewed the overstuffed arm clear down to the frame while I went to the store for milk. Quick as that.

It was a good thing we loved him like we did.

That's how I feel about my cats.  One's a puker and one's a pee-er, and I love them just as much as my cuddler.  Who would have realized?  Not me, before I ever adopted them.  (Or they adopted me...)

I too am sorry for your loss.

Pets are family.  We have one old dog Molly Bloom whom I love to pieces - she is so spoiled that she demands to lie on my desk while I work.   How many lawyers do you know work with a dog on the desk?

But Molly is getting up there and I dread the day we will lose her.  She is really "my" dog and follows me everywhere.

We lost our 17 year old cat Dashiell a few years ago.  That cat was special because he first adopted my husband (he had been my cat before my DH & I were married).  The last few days he was so sick..our other cat Mazel knew that and it was interesting watching how Mazel kept Dashiell company.   I'd never seen that before - Mazel was so tender.  Anyone that says cats don't have feelings never had a cat.  It was about 6:30 at night when we finally took Dash to the vet - it was time.  I was in tears, and a client called on the cell phone ..I told the client that we were on the way to the vet to put our sick cat to sleep.   I could not believe that the client demanded I call him from the cell phone at the vet's.   I fired the client. (That was the final straw).

Yes, animals are part of the family.   Sherlock may have been a pain in the butt but he was your pain in the butt.    Baxter will not take the place of Sherlock but he will become a joy (and a pain) in a way uniquely his.

Jean, Gary had just graduated from law school when we bought our first house, all new furniture, all new everything. "A house isn't a home without a dog" he declared one Saturday morning. No fence around my dream home, but by the end of the weekend, we had a dog.

He ate the new furniture, ran through the electric fence, chewed the corners of the interior walls, barked at the neighbors, and stole our hearts. My mom would call about the time she knew I was coming home from work. " Are you having dog stew tonight?".

We were kicked out of puppy training school, but we loved him.

Gary's office was at home too, and no, he didn't get onto the desk but I bet there were chew marks on the legs. They became fast friends during that time, so there's the reason I've been more worried about Gary's reaction than mine. I'm a blubbering fool. He's doing better than I am. Not by much though.

Thank you for your kindness.

p.s.....my mother's name was Mollie

Gee, it sounds like Marley ... are you sure he wasn't the inspiration? (Have you seen the movie or read the book? Might be tough to do it now, but it's very funny until the end, which will send you crying.)

OH NO.....I don't do crying books, movies, commercials, or anything having to do with animals because they always die. I don't even watch Disney movies anymore. Have you ever noticed that somebody ALWAYS dies in a Disney movie???  What's that about. Don't even get me started on the movie Turner and Hootch with Tom Hanks.  I cried for days after that one. Totally didn't see the end coming and there we were, Jeff about 6 or ****ching this funny movie about a big goofy dog and BAM!  Someone shoots the dog!

If you could see my face today you'd know why I don't like to cry. I look like I went 4 rounds in a boxing ring. Make up will be pointless today. Sigh. It's okay though. I'll get better.

Hugs to you, Eileen

Susan
