Exercise - Schedule?
Have any of you tried to establish a schedule for exercise and if so, how does it work for you?
I went to the gym today - bicycled 30 min and walked 20 min. I met a woman there about 10 years older than I and started chatting. She is not overweight but is hoping exercise will help lower blood pressure. We agreed to meet same time on Thurs.
This seems like a good incentive - and I'm lucky that I can go at a time when the gym is pretty empty.

Well Jan,
I don't think I am either. I've tried this before and never made it. I just am not that structured.
I might try it again...
I suspect (and have always heard) that a schedule is a good thing - the structure makes it more likely you will keep up the exercise (or whatever).
Now, since I work from home, I have the time and not the excuses I had before. But I still am not great at schedules. It's like writing down what I eat. I cannot for the life of me figure out how people can actually keep up writing down everything they eat.
I'm open to developing new habits or practices. Certainly, my eating is changing radically!

Jani...I had a friend tell me "It is all about showing up.....if you show up at the gym...you will find something to do and feel lots better....so JUST SHOW UP!!!....I try to and sometimes I have gotten parked outside ande said "NO, I really really don't want to do this...but that has onloy happened a few times and I have gone inside the majority of times.
Take care, Marti

Exercise is convenient for me -- I joined the local YMCA -- on my way home from work. I go every day after work and have improvised a sort of schedule. M-W-F consists of 15-30 minutes of aerobic warmup (treadmill, bicycle, or elliptical) followed by circuits Mon - upper body, Wed - core or extra walking, Fri - lower body. Wednesday is a Tai Chi class. Tues - Thurs is deep water aqua aerobics. I've maintained this routine for 2 1/2 months. My objective is to build and maintain healthy muscle tissue during my weight loss. I am beginning to see and feel positive results. At this point I have scheduled a couple of sessions with a personal trainer and will work with her to develop a program to fit my needs.
Downside of this is that I can only go during "peak" hours, i.e. before or after work when everyone else is also before or after, so it's often a slow process to get to the equipment. Everybody's pretty cool about it; after all, we're all in the same boat.
Upside? Besides the obvious health benefits, my DH has supper waiting for me when I get home! He's retired and can go to the Y during the day when things are slower. We are both getting healthier!
