Schedules

So, yesterday, my colleagues and I were discussing plans to meet up and talk about a project we are doing together.  I said, let’s get our calendars out and pick a day.  We all, as quick as greased lightning, pulled out our planners and began searching for free time.  I use my planner all the time and don’t know what I’d do without it.  At night, I put those dates in my phone calendar so that it will give me a warning that something needs to be done.  Just a few minutes ago, I flipped out my planner to see what’s up and after teaching classes, I am shopping for birthday gift, meeting a friend for coffee and working on revising a paper.  My question to you all is:  do you plan your day or does your day plan you?

I just exist in my day.

We are flexible.

A little of both.

I have one of those huge books on my desk from my previous life when I worked "corporate".  You know the one that has everything in it until the year 2020... lol.  Long before the phones and other new technology.

I keep it open to the monthly overview and flip to the weekly for details of what is to be done.  Now I have the time to actually plan "me" time.  But, as true to all humans there are times I plan my day and it gets a hold of my life and ends up planning me.

I like to be organized and on time for everything and this helps me.  I also have separate binders / folders for information & stuff for the groups I belong to.   Even my piles are somewhat organized.

However, don't look into my garage.  You'd think a tornado hit.

I call  my planner My Brain...that should answer that question.  I used be able to remember appointments 6 months in advance, I never wrote anything down. Now If I don't write it down,Im going to miss it. I saw the planner sitting on the coffee table the other day and about fainted. If it's not in my purse and I needed it I would be in a panic. My work pays for us to get new ones every year, and this was the week that we all ordered them for 2010, you would think we were ordering new cars.

I work from home and have a mac program called "Daylite".  It has a calendar, "tickler" system, and to dos..

Planning and setting short term goals are important for me.  If I don't write things down (or log them), I don't remember.

I just got a reminder to add "exercise" to my calendar - and just did..   I love the "repeating" function..I added it every other day, and we'll see how well I keep to it.

I was on my way to school and reached in my purse to pull out my planner and it was not there so I turned around, went home, found planner, and was late for class. LOL

I think I have tried EVERY day planner on the market......they do not work for me....I would need to have it in my hands all the time and that is just not practical for me in my business..[Realtor]...so I decided about 10 years ago that to scrap all of them and just plan in my head.

Doctor appointments etc...I put on my computer calendar and have them remind me a day ahead.....sometimes those are a month or two out and I can't remember that far !! I also put in real estate classes ...meetings etc..

I occasionally miss something or double scheduole, but not as often as you would think. I am pretty organized....and I usually will write myself a quck note and put it in my purse, which I usually clean out each evening before I go to bed. I also put peoples phone numbers in my phone right away, so that I can reach them if I need to re-schedule.

I find I have to do my workouts very early in the morning to be safe however. The owner of my company has never used a day planner and he has become a very wealthy man with a large successful company and 180+ employees....ewithout a day planner....it forces you to remember. .

I would be lost without my Palm Pilot. I can count on one hand the number of times in a week it is out of arms reach, usually in my pocket. Everything also goes on the Windows Calendar on my computer so everything is in front of me while online.

I use a day planner everyday and have for as many years as I can remember. I can't imagine my life without it. I would miss every appointment I ever had!!

Evenings are mine....don't strictly plan anything.

My career requires a dayplanner AND a computer version. So during the school year I have a therapy schedule that is constant and a "special" planner to keep track of meetings, Dr. appts., trips, and PARTIES! During the summer I stay very unstructured with my time for the most part. In fact, I missed a party that I wanted to attend because I hadn't looked in my planner for over a month!
