Dexsa Scan Today/Shrinking Woman Here!!
HI All
I had my dexa scan today (test to show how bad osteoperosis is) The test was nothing
hardly, but, the shocker is the lady asked me before starting. How tall are you? I am 5'5 says I. Let's check it out, she says. Will with the spine fracture & the degenerating
disk that I have I am shrinking. I am now only 5'2& 1/2.
Big difference & had no idea that there
had been that much change in my height. Now I will get some of that back when the reinforcement is done on my spine (after surgery), but, some of it will probably be permanent. O.K. so now I am a really short person.

I was always so proud of being one of the tallest if not the tallest girl in my glass in elementary school at 5'9. In my later years here I have developed that flattest feet imaginable. ( I actually suction to the kitchen floor if Itry to go barefooted) 5 knee and ankle surgeries and rhu arthritis. When my doctor had me have a scan they measured me at 5'5.. I didn't believe them. I honestly didn't think it was possible to shring THAT much..guess it is, bummer

I always thought I was 5-6. Imagine my surprise when I was measured pre-op at the bariatric center and they told me I was 5-3 1/2. Gosh, I was stunned! The only thing I could think of was I was shrinking height-wise because of the disc compression in my back. And that was exactly what my pain specialist told me.
Since WLS, I have regained an inch. I'm now 5-4. So WLS has had a positive impact on my spine, reducing the disc compression. The last time I was measured at the bariatric center and for my DEXA scan, I had regained height. So I think when you have your spinal surgery, you may get some height back too. (I haven't had spinal surgery, but getting the weight off has really helped my back.)

Aloha Marilyn and OFF friends *****sponded...
It is amazing to me to hear the numbers that have changed over the years. I have always had the opposite experience. In grade school I was 5'11" tall and felt like am Amazon!! Finally in high school, some of the boys caught up with me and that was a relief. I'm still 5'10.5 so lost a half inch somewhere!!
My best friend in high school was 5' tall.....everyone called us "Mutt and Jeff!"
Aloha nui loa,
