I so admire those of you who contribute daily to the "What's New" thread.    I have to think that if you saved all your entries, you would have created a journal of your life experiences.   Has anyone ever saved their contributions to possibly pass down thru the generations?   I have to think that I would so love to read the daily writings (or even ramblings) of my Grandmother or Great-Grandmother?       Anyone else think of this?

Nope, no grands to pass down to ... other than grandnephews and I don't think they're interested (or at least not at this point in their lives ... they barely know me ... they see me about four times a year and now at least they're not terrified of me)

But maybe it would be good for those with grandchildren.

Yeah, I understand - I think most of the kids, grands, etc would not be interested now, however.....   much, much later, you never know.    My Grandmother had a sister who never married, never had children.   Still, she led a very interesting life & cared deeply for her nephews & nieces and their descendents.     I think it would be interesting to know more about her & others in the family.

At least you do the writing..... sometimes I think I'm just too lazy.

I've been keeping a sewing journal for over 20 years. It started as an inventory, sort of, of my sewing room as I rearranged it. It soon became a planning recording quilts made, or supplies bought for a project. When I first started this journey, DH made a comment one day about how much I talked about WLS and everything pertaining to it. I started keeping a WLS surgery journal when I started my 6mo diet so I'd have a place to voice all that stuff in my brain and not bore him or my friends with it.

I know someone somewhere down the line will be interested in my sewing journal because I treasure the old records like that i find in antique shops, but I don't know of anyone who'd be interested in the one for WLS. I don't have kids and no one to pass anything to or that would care.

I'll bet your sewing journal is wonderful!   Have you seen the website they have for those who knit & crochet?   It's called Ravelry.com ....   There you can log each of your projects and related notes along with photos of your projects.   Also, you can browse thru other's projects to get lots of new ideas.  I often wish there were something like that for sewing.  There is sewingpatternreview.com , but I don't think it's near as informative as Ravelry.com .

No, I've never heard of that one. I just barely crochet but I'll pass this link along to friends who do it alot. There's one website that lists all kinds of sewing rooms, where people are remodeling, etc. I use it to get better ideas for orgainizing things. Alot of them are on blogs that are very interesting. Check it out... www.younge.com/sewing%20rooms.htm

Yeah, me too..... but if I wrote every day, I could save a copy...   Who knows, someone could probably blackmail me with it!

actually-sometimes i do print out some stuff- usually tho it's emails -i used to write my bf shirl everyday and many of them were journalling for me- now she is not in my life so i talk to myself!

i have a few journals- some stuff i don't want anyone to read...
and some that mean nothing to anyone but me- i keep little sayings and i have snippets of paper everywhere-ya know- i'm a genalogist and i spent an afternoon once reading some of the most interesting letters written by a daughter to her mother back home (in England i think) in the 1800's-sending a swatch of fabric to describe a dress (cameras?!) and talking about so many wonderful things- i loved it-i have no clue whose family she was but it was interesting!

of course, i am strange!

i would love to know what my ancestors thought day to day -or about hardships and about pleasant htings- children being born holidays , etc....

I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult.

A few years ago, I wrote a short story about my mother and was asked to read it at an annual town event thing.  I invited my sisters and their families and afterwards, they all wanted their own copy.  Well, one of my sisters, submitted it to one of those chicken soup things and it was accepted for publication.  I signed the forms and that that was that; however, a few years later, I got a letter from a literary journal and they wanted to see some more of my "creative writing" so I sent them a couple of short stories that were based, somewhat, on my life and they published them.  Again, thought that was the end of that and a few weeks ago, I get an email from an agent that wants me to combine all of my short stories into a book and she thinks she can get it published so all those years of me writing this crap down is going to pay off. LOL.  So, yeah, I write stuff down and keep records for my kinfolks. LOL.  If and when a book materializes, I'll let you guys know.  But, right now, I'm so busy with my academic writing that I have barely had time to even start sorting through all of that stuff.  Plus, some of those stories are on floppies and I don't have a floppy thing so I'll have to go somewhere to get them retrieved.  Geeze.
