Question about caffeine
Hey everyone,
Do any of you drink caffeine at all? I miss my coffee so much. I would make 12 cups with one scoop of decaf and one scoop of caffeinated.
Being 3 weeks out, I guess it's a little soon to have maybe a cup of 1/2 and 1/2 coffee? Gosh, I miss my coffee - lol - I've been drinking decaf with creamer, but it's just not the same - wha wha wha - LOL
Hi:
As early out of surgery as you are, I would strongly suggest you do not drink caffeinated coffee......it is a diuretic and depletes water from your system. At this point in your journey you really need to get in your 64 oz. of water per day.....it's really important for your wt loss.
My surgeon doesn't want us to drink caffeinated drinks at all. I only just started a few months back having a cup of reg coffee at work and when I do that I try to drink extra water and I'm two years out. I know it's hard to give up that caffeine but it's for your best health if you can do it.
Just my humble opinion as a support group leader (not a doctor).

Done! Your Ticker:
It was really hard giving up coffee and caffeine ... I was told I would have to do that two weeks before surgery and I had to do it cold turkey ... but I did it. I gave it up for nearly three years. Now I'm back on it. So eventually, you can try it again. I have a lot of liquids, though ... I always did drink a lot of water.
I am the worst one to ask this... I love my coffee... I have given up cigarettes and liquor and sex but I aint giving up my coffee! ... ok... well, I *did* give up cigarettes and liquor
Truthfully... and remember, this was just me... they brought me coffee the next day after surgery.... I offered to adopt the nurse who brought this elixer of life to me... but she had a dad already
I am a 2 pot a day drinker... with creamer and splenda... yum.... I am sure it is bad for me, but with all I have given up I gotta have some fun.

I was told no caffeine because it can be a gastric irritant (and a diuretic, and lots of other evil things). I abstained for about 9 months, and since then, I've had 1 cup of coffee a day. I haven't noticed any side effects other than mood improvement! But you're so newly post-op, I can only advise you to be conservative...I know it sucks, but just think of all those tender places inside you that have been cut and sutured...take care of them like a newborn babe.
