Hey George,

Took my kitty to the vet and she has doubled her weight in less than three weeks.  YIKES.  He said she is doing good and gave her another shot.  She has just two left and must be a little heavier to get those.  Of course Ginger was sad that we I had taken the kitty and when we came home she was going nuts trying to get her out of the carrier.  The next time, they both go.

This weekend I am just writing.  I have to get my chapter for the book in reasonable order so the reviewers can began reading it over.  I hate that process.  Linguists and non linguists alike will read what I've writtten and if it isn't clear or accurate, they began tearing it down.  Last year, when I did the chapter to the Young book, I thought I was going to die.  But, it is good and I survived it.  LOL.

Today I'm teaching the students who are grateful students.  I know that sounds weird, but on Tuesdays and Thursdays, I teach at the white priviliedged university where they all drive new cars, don't work, and have parents who are college graduates and have money.  On MWF, I teach at another university, a working university, where all of my students come from poverty and are on loans or grants and work part time and some are very non traditional students with families and full time jobs. They are so grateful for the opportunity to be in school and they will do every single thing I ask.  Most are nursing students or CAD students or Radiology students or education majors.  They are so earnest.  Their hopes are to graduate and make enough money to support their families or not work as hard as they do now or have a job.  Anyway, they are what makes teaching so great.

Lasst night, my friend called and wants to meet up for lunch.  I feel as though I may neglect her somewhat because she lives down the mountain and we just can never coordinate our schedules; however, she called and said, I am not taking no for an answer.  So, we will meet for food or something.  She and I grew up together and while we have absolutely nothing in common except our past, I still have such a good time with her.  Her mother recently died and she told me that while cleaning out her mother's house, she found some of my old things too.  Like an old purse that she had borrowed in ninth grade.  I get it. Yeah.

Well that's about it for me.

Have a good day.

God bless you.  It must be so rewarding to teach thos MWF students.  Especially when you have the TuTh to compare them to.

GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!!!

Jeannie......How did you get your kitty into the carrier? I have to take BOTH of mine for about 15 miles tomorrow morning and I'm anxious and nervous because neither have been out of the condo since their adoption and vet visit. I have a friend who lives in building who gave them their shots here. I can just imagine finally getting them in and then hearing them yowl for a half hour!!

Karen:

Whenever I've had to put a cat in a carrier, first of all, I put something in there they like, like a blanket or a t-shirt with my smell on it. Also, a little cat nip (something to lure them in). Then I pick up the cat and stuff it in. All the while, I speak calmly to the cat, sometimes singing (yeah, that'll calm 'em down ... you never heard me sing ... but Kittle used to like it).

Actually, this really works. Also, you might want to try putting some treats in the carrier to lure the cat in if you don't feel comfortable stuffing it in the carrier as I described. I thought I'd have problems with Diva (who didn't like being picked up at all), but she went pretty meekly. And even Scooter has gone into the carrier well. They meow all the while in the car. They don't like it. Oh, Kittle was a horrible traveler. He'd meow, he'd cry, then he'd throw up, sometimes he'd poop ... our long trips when I'd move were so much fun.

Aloha Eileen and thanks so much for the tips. I do NOT know what to expect tomorrow morning, but I did a dry run just now (8:50a.m.) and put some shrimp in the back of the carriers, and both Nicki and Poki went in about halfway to get the shrimp. Tomorrow morning I'll do the same but gently shove them all the way in and slam the door. I hope it works!!

I'll report back tomorrow on our adventure getting kitties upcountry!!

Aloha nui loa,

karen- a thought- nasty trick--put one carrier in your bedroom and one in liv rm- seperate the cats before putting treats in-otherwise one may go but second may be too wise to fall for the shrimp after seeing you shut teh door!!!!!!!

i know-nasty but meant with love!

I don't have cats and I was going to say the same thing.  When I give the dogs a bath, the first one comes easily then I have to chase the other two down!
It is what it is.
If He brings you to it, He'll bring you through it...

Hey Karen!

Just wanted to let you know that the health food stores have something called RESCUE REMEDY...it's a small bottle of an oil .  You rub a bit inside the cats' ears and it calms them right down.

It really worked well on Ying, my siamese bluepoint who NOBODY could handle but our younger son Derek.. it really helped frazzled nerves....Ying's AND mine!

ps

It's also safe for human people who are anxious *s*

I open the door and they usually walk in.  My older kitty sometimes resists, so I just pick her up and head first her through the door and give her a little push on the butt and she goes in, turns around, and lies down.  The baby meows cause she hasn't gotten used to the vet yet.  You might put one of your old shirts in or a towel that you have rubbed in your hair so that your sent is there.  When my cat stayed over night at the vets, he suggested that I bring one of my old shirts and when I picked her up, she was lying on the old shirt.

today we sign with the realtor-
michael knows it's the right thing to do yet he is giving me crap on some issues- he waits til i get my cpap strap and mask on last nite to start talking-where was he while i was sitting in the living room?????his issues aren't really with the realtor or the concept but with where did his life go and what value is he now that we are redfuced to getting almost nothing out of the house- with all the money and sweat we have put in and i just have had enough....sorry-and see-these are things that i deal with all of the time with him-sometimes i see them coming and sometimes i am blindsighted! (((blindsided??))) i am tired of trying to be positive all the time- of cheerleading and making decisions and trying to keep us floating--and with dreary days approaching i want out of ohio!hawaii...take me away.............

this weekend i clean the back bedroom! my mom is coming monday for a week- so she deserves a place to sleep!

i'm having attention problems- is that my B12 or is it just all of the stuff on my plate??it seems like nothing is getting finished or moved off the plate and more is getting added on ...made yet another dr appt for michael yesterday- will be next week smack dab in the middle of the week- like we need another dr appt---monday he goes to see the aneurism guy-and since we aren't moving til goodness knows when( or at least january) maybe he will do the surgery here and soon...wed we go back to his shoulder guy - workers comp says now to ramp up treatment!! soooo we will see what he says....when i get truly stressed and overloaded it starts to settle in my neck and it's been there for about a week...

things are probly hoppin in dallas today!!!

hugs and prayers...............

I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult.
