Kitty drama and move out today!
Aloha my friends....I decided to start a topic on this because after today I will NOT have a computer for a week! OMIGOD.......I'll feel lost without my daily "OFF Fix."
Yesterday was a day of drama...and work. In the morning I knew I had to get my kitties, Nicky and Poki, into the carriers and take them upcountry to the Cat Hotel. Well, my plan worked for Nick.....I put shrimp way back in the carrier and he was half way in and I shoved him all the way in, and slammed the door. Poki, on the other hand, streaked out of her carrier and headed under the bed. Then Nick began to howl, and that spooked Poki even more. I thought I would never get her into her carrier, but eventually she came out and I grabbed her, held her tightly, and stood the carrier on end (thanks Eileen) and dropped her in!! Slam...door closed.....two howling cats now!! I had brought up a small hotel luggage type carrier and both carriers fit perfectly on that.
Down to the car with people looking at my two howling "kids" and I got them situated in the car so I could see both of them and talk to them. They howled for half the time I drove upcountry, but weren't as pitiful sounding as I'd expected. When we got to the "hotel" I put their carrier in their little outdoor house......put in their litter, filled water and food feeders and then opened their carrier doors. Poki came right out and started exploring but big old Nick stayed put in his carrier. Hated to leave them, but had to. The man who is taking care of them e-mailed me later saying they were both out of the carriers and exploring....that felt good.
Now I have an empty house (kitty wise) and am hard at work double bagging so much stuff from pantry, frige, freezer, etc. I have to be out at 3:00 this afternoon (7:00a.m.) right now . I have much to do, so won't linger, but just wanted to say bye to you all until next week end sometime. Big hugs to the girls who partied all weekend....and THANKS so much !!!!!! You made my day!
I will be online for another eight hours.......and will for sure come in often to see what's happening with my favorite peeps!
With so much aloha,
Maui Karen

Aloha Jeannie........In the car I had the carriers, one of front seat facing me, and the other in the middle of the back seat so he could see me, too. I also got the foot through the door, and the BIG WIDE EYES!!! Poor little Poki was panting with her tongue hanging out....that was sorta scary.
Feels strange with them not here this morning, for sure!
Thanks for your experience.

I'm glad it went fairly easy for you with your kitties. I have dogs so I don't know about cats first hand. My friend has cats and every time she has to take them to the vet they either vomit or poop (loosly) in their crates. It's a real hassel for her and not something she relishes doing. Luckily, I show dogs and they've all been crate trained, so they travel well in their crates in the car. I've got two crates in the house and half the time the dogs are in 'their space'. If I can't find them around the house I check their crates and they're usually in there sleeping. I used to think crates were mean, but I've grown up and realize the dogs actually like their own space.
I can't imagine having to double bag everything. I've never heard of that before. Is their a big termite problem in Hawaii? After one week will all the fumes dissapate and the place be ok to bring animals, and people back? Doesn't seem like much time. Hopefully this will solve the problem tho. Good luck, see ya on the flip side.

Aloha Jani........Oh, dogs are so much easier it seems to me. My neighbor will just take her little ****zu with her on his lease to her temporary home. We are all cursing as we take everything out of freezer/friger/pantry and decide it it needs double bagging. They tell us that anything that isn't bagged that should have been will be thrown out!!
My poor 84 year old neighbor is really struggling to get through this......I'm going to try and have some time to help her today if I get my own stuff done.
Thank, Jani...........and best of luck!

Hi Karen,
Just got back from the party in Dallas, great to see everyone. For me it was a lot of fun but also very good therapy. So glad you got to talk with Janet for her birthday. She was so pleasantly surprised when she heard it was you when Karen C handed her the telephone. Would have been great if you could have been with us.
Glad you found a good kitty hotel and that they seemed to settle in well. What a chore for you to have to do all that double bagging and all and moving out etc. Hope the week passes quickly for you.

Our fur babies certainly do have a way of making us feel guilty don't they? I know my Misty does. I am glad that it went fairly well with taking them to the hotel. I hope that you made them understand that there will be no frivolous room service ordering while they are on vacation. ha ha It is always harder on us than it is on our babies when we have to uproot them for something. They seem to adjust so much better than we do.
I hope that this week goes quickly for you and for us..we are going to miss you so much! I know that I wait for you to post since you bring so much peace to me. I so often need that and you are the one way that I get it. I really want to thank you for that. I am not even sure that you know you do that.
Take care of yourself and know that you are loved and missed while you are gone from us........

Howdy, Karen!
Hope all goes well with the double bagging, etc! The kitties will be fine and oh, so happy to see you again.
Take care of YOU too!
