Question about Calcium
Actually, a lot of ppl, including medical professionals, are mislead by the name. It's still carbonate. Maximum absorption possible is 8% in a highly acidic environment. That would not be us.
You can, of course, continue on carbonate, just as I did. It cost me kidney stones and my bones. It nearly cost me a husband. When his kidney stone stent was removed, he contracted septicemia (blood poisoning). I was warned early on by my urologist, but I just figured she didn't know anything about WLS.
I'm nobody and I know nothing, but I know what it costs to take carbonate instead of citrate or other well absorbed forms of calcium, or to not take enough. Or to not take enough of the right D. All of it.
No life insurance, no long term care insurance. No long term disability. Fractures that cannot heal right.
It just isn't worth it. Go get the Citracal or ITS equal, not Caltrate.

P.S. My year + long absence has NOTHING to do with my WLS, or my type of WLS. See my profile.

Hi Michelle, I'm loving the calcium crystals which I'm taking twice a day in my protein shakes. Now my question: This is NOT calcium citrate but "lactate gluconate." Do you consider this equal to calcium citrate? I've doubled my Vitamin D. Could this be one reason why my fingernails seem stronger? (Just 2 months)

Yes, and I have a paper study here on that. Took some convincing. It also has the same oxalate-kidney stones prevention properties as calc citrate.
If you have enough D to supply all the soft tissue, brain, joints, then yeah, there could be enough left over to feed bones, teeth and eventually trickle down to the nails.
But if you also increased your protein supps intake at the same time, I'd be more inclined to put the credit there. LOL

Since sun doesn't really count for D, I'm thinking the medicinal part is relaxation.
Do you give courses in that? I'm not good at it.
No wine for me. The stats for addiction are way too alarming for me to even sip.
