Survived termite tenting drama!!

Aloha my friends in the OFF......

Yesterday, we got the "all clear" to move back into our homes after the termite tenting was finished early. I stayed in a friend's condo right next door so from her lanai I could see the people doing the actual tenting and it was amazing!! Our manager told me he was going to remove my plants from the lanai, and he forgot, so I have three what used to be beautiful palm plants that are turning rapidly brown.........they will have to go.

My adventure with my kitties was the thing I worried about the most, and there were moments when I had to get tough with them to get them into their carriers, but I managed to get them upcountry into their "kitty hotel" which was great. It's an outdoor white lattice little building with stacked cages inside that are full of plaything, pillows, blankets, etc. I went up there to visit them on Monday and they seemed to be doing fine. When I picked them up yesterday....I went through a bit of hell getting them back into the carriers.......but eventually did......and they "talked to me" all the way home....probably wondering where I was taking them now. When I opened the carriers inside my house, they streaked under the bed, their favorite hiding place. Slowly they came out and begin getting back into their routine.

I look back at this LONG adventure and realize that it went pretty smoothly. I came home to much work with opening all the double bagged food, medicines, vitamins, etc. and spent hours getting to back into it's place. I am so glad to be back in my home and to have my computer again. I had a TON of e-mails.....200 plus....which I did a lot of deleting all the promotional stuff, and then reading and responding to friends, and kids' letters.

Tying this all to having lost 160 something lbs........I could NOT have done all of this at 319 lbs.!! When I went to the kitty hotel I sat on the floor and played with them and then was up and down trying to catch them and stuff them into their carriers! When I was fat, I could NOT have fit into their hotel room!! Lots to be thankful for!! And I am.

SOrry to hear about Linda being back in rehab, but she's a warrior woman and will rebound from this as she does with all the challenges that come into her life.

Margo.........I think of you daily and wish you a smooth path to Hawaii. You have a lot on your plate, but you will one day look back and say "Wow...I'm glad that's over" as you sip your mai tai on the beaches of The Big Island!

So glad to be back. Best of luck to those of you facing something difficult in your lives, and sending love to those who need it. I get so much from this group.......and you all make my life richer. Thank you.

Aloha nui loa,

Karen!

What a nice surprise to see your smiling face again!!!

I am so glad it wasn't too bad.  Sorry about the plants but the building will be much better off now that it's been treated.

Take care!!

Glad to see you back. Having made all my moves when I was obese, I know what you are describing. I remember moving from South Dakota to Georgia and having to clean and pitch and help the packers ... these were two men who were not very nice. The head guy told his supervisor that I was this fat woman who was a slob and they were just not going to pack for me. Gee, thanks, they were working for me, not the other way around. When the mover came, he said they had no right to talk like that around me and they were supposed to do a job. He was going to report them. The things we put up with when we were obese, huh?

I'm glad the kitties survived. I know my kitties survived my many moves (Scooter has only had the one short move from Grand Rapids to Hudsonville ... a whole 10 miles ... his main fright was seeing the ceiling fans in the condo when I turned them on ... now he loves them, of course).

Welcome back!

Aloha Eileen....I think that is horrible how the movers treated you!! How dare they!!!!!!!! But I remember being almost invisible when I was over 300 lbs. and that hurt as much as being told I'm too fat to do something. Hearing stories like yours makes of grateful even more, and glad for you that you are now VERY VISIBLE.!

Funny about the ceiling fans. My kitties that I had on the mainland hated it when I would turn a table fan on and it would blow on them. These kitties love sitting right in front of the fans!!

Thanks for you TLC.

Hi Honey!!!

I was hoping you'd be back soon!  Sorry about the plants, but I'm sure you might be able to find some more somewhere around there....LOL  The main thing is you and the kitties survived The Great Termite Tent Adventure and you're back safe and sound.  Our little family isn't the same when a few are missing, like you and dear Linda. But....we did seem to muddle through...sigh.

Take care of yourself and the kids...

Aloha dear Susan.......I can't believe how much I missed my friends in here!! I know I will have to scratch my head in wonderment when someone tells a story that I didn't hear the first part! Ha!

Uh, yep....I think I might be a able to find a plant or two here. The drive upcountry was so gorgeous. It rains up there so everything is lush, BIG, and bright colored flowers everywhere.

The "kids" both slept beside me on the bed last night...they usually sleep out in the living room near the open glass slider..........very sweet.

Aloha nui loa,

Welcome home Karen (and furbabies),

What an ordeal. Termites are gone, plants a bit wilted, but there is no place like home.

I can't imagine herding cats into a carrier. Our Joey adored the carrier but the others Devil... no way.
