Belated Introduction
Hi Mary,
I know you introduced yourself at some point but it is nice to see you again. I usually go between the BMI over 50, this one and the RNY board. There are good people on all of these.
I have introduced myself on this board a while back and post every so often. I, like all of you, have been overweight for most of my life. I have lost and gained many pounds and when it affected my health, drastic times call for drastic measures. I was 53 when I had my surgery and I wish I could have had it sooner.
My weight has affected my career opportunities because when I had to look for work 3 years ago, I had to search for 6 months before I found a job.
People are treating me different now than when I was SMO. I am also starting to demand respect from certain individuals who think they can continue to treat me in a manner that I don't consider respectful. I think it scares some of them but I don't care. Having surgery has shown me that I am a person, worthwhile and do not deserve to be treated with disrespect and I think it scares some of those people. People I work with tell me I have a whole new sassy attitude and I hold my head up high instead of putting it down. I wish I didn't have to go through some of the things I have had to go through but God works in mysterious ways I guess.
I hope Michael gets past some of these hurdles and gets the surgery that he needs. He can take care of you when you are done and you can do the same for him. My husband who didn't have RNY lost 20 pounds in the last 14 months since I had my surgery. He doesn't know how that happened but I think it is because I brought the junk in because I wanted it too. When I didn't eat it, I didn't buy it.
Best wishes and prayers for everything to go well on Wednesday.
Sylvia
