Hello Everyone... I'm pre-op. My name is Chevy (Becky) and am planning on having RNY. Just found out yesterday what I thought was going to be a whole year wait is only going to be 6 months! Yea! I have medicaid so I have to have legal documentation of seeing a dietitian for 6 months for medicaid to approve. So here I am... I have a BMI of 58 I'm @ 307 lbs and only 5'1. I have no cartlidge left in my knees so I can only stand about 5 mins and then I have severe pain. So walking right now is out of the question. I bought a resistance chair that I can use for exercising from my hips up. I'm hoping this will help with sagging skin on my arms. I have my first appt. next week Oct. 2nd. In the meantime I will be here on the boards reading and seeing what info I can find out on everything to do with surgery....

See ya on the boards, Chevy

Welcome to the boards. You will find this board to be one of the best. The people here are fantastic.
I totally understand your knee pain, I went through the same thing. But now I have 2 new knees and walking great.

Thanks Dorothy... I'm hoping after weight loss it won't be too bad on my knees so I won't need knee replacement, but if I have to I will~

Congratulations Chevy on starting this journey.  The time will fly by and before you know it, you'll be losing lots of weight.  I had my RNY on June 8, 2009 and as of today have lost 50 pounds.  I'm so glad that I did it!

Welcome!
I also had severe knee problems prior to RNY and was advised that knee surgery was inevitable.  Now I have been told that I will probably not need it for a number of years.
I feel that things are so much better.

Welcome Chevy,

As has been said, you have landed on one of the best forums OH offers in the way of support and information.  There are many people here who have been post sugery for 5 years and better.  You've taken the first steps toward a new and healthy life.

Best wishes on your journey, looking forward to getting to know you better.

Laureen

Thank you for the Welcomes Connie, Holly, ECU, Sheri & Laureen.

Holly good luck on your upcoming VSG surgery. I wanted that one too but medicaid won't cover it so I am having the RNY.

ECU congrats on your weight loss!

Sheri that is wonderful about your knees. I too hope I will be able to put off knee surgery for awhile...
