I know people have different thoughts about Olympics and things of that nature.  People may not have wanted it, but they would have honestly relished the experience.  That festive atmosphere even if you don't go to the games themself.  I remember back in 1964 when New York hosted the World's Fair (remember those).  It was great to be a New Yorker then.

I am on my way to the Pumpkin Patch with about a thousand developmentally disabled children and adults... it will be a fun day. There is a petting zoo, a train ride through a scarecrow patch, a corn maze, and lots of activities. Have to run now!

Nothing like viewing the world through the eyes of a child no matter what the age. I have a friend with Downs's Syndrome who is in her late 20s. She is such a joy to everyone!

We have a pumpkin patch we go to every year.  We try to take as many grandkids as we can.  Normally pick up Brad's kids and then have Penny meet us there.  It is getting to be a hassle now, with most of the kids being in school.  It is hard enough to get Eddie out of school for the Rangers' Opening Day every year.  So I don't press the issue when it comes to the pumpkin patch.

My condolences too, George.  Speaking of scared dogs mine jumps up occasionally and beats a hasty retreat while looking over his shoulder.  He's never figured out that it is his own gas passing.

I have a couple of WOW's to report.  This nice looking man flirted with me in the grocery store.  It's been so long since anything like that happened that I didn't even recognize it until later.  And my favorite store had jeans on clearance and I decided I needed a second pair now that I'm not dressing up for work.  SIZE 14!!!  WOOOOO HOOOOOO!

Still having a legal battle with former employer regarding retirement and I've been showing my place to prospective housemates.  Also doing some fall clean up in the garden and whacking weeds.

Tonight I've been invited to join the Bettin' Babes.  They are seven other women who meet once a month for wine, appetizers and nickle ante poker.  I'm taking smoked turkey and fat free cream cheese rollups. along with my roll of nickels.

Tomorrow I've invited my friend Steve over for dinner.  There is a full moon and I have a small pile of brush to burn in the firepit.  Also I priced new bathroom faucets/drains and decided to try cleaning up the old ones instead with some metal polish and elbow grease.  They look a lot better.

Have a weekend where dreams come true.  Luv ya, CV Linda

heh, heh, heh.   That cracks me up!!   I've had dogs that have done much the same thing.  Mine haven't run, but when they have passed gas, they have always looked over their shoulders as if something happened that they missed out on!!  Apparently, the smell doesn't clue them in.  ha, ha

Aloha George and my dear OFF sibs............

George......how very sad that your daughter has a miscarriage. I hope all of you get through this gently supporting each other. My DIL had a miscarriage a couple of years ago before she got pregnant with her third little boy baby, Zane, who is now l.5 years old!!

I'm dealing with a sick computer, and will be taking it up to the "Maui Mac Medic" on Monday. It works OK if I just put it into "sleep mode" but if I shut down completely it doesn't want to start up again....I just get the little spinning rainbow wheel. Eventually it will come back on....but slower each time. So after Monday I will be without a computer for who knows how long. I hope it doesn't cost an arm and a leg to get it fixed.

This past week has been very busy. I tested babies Tues. morning...had NINE born on Monday!! It looks like no one on Maui is holding back because of this lousy economy in having their families! It is life affirming for me to spend a little time with these beautiful little newborns. Thankfully all nine of them passed easily.

As I was driving home this morning from an early meeting I saw that they had lit on fire a cane field very close to our condo complex! It was thick smoke when I got home........so I closed up and turned on A/C for awhile. My friends who live near me and I have all just decided that for a few weeks we will just have to DEAL with all the dirt making stuff going on.......first the tenting, then thatching the huge lawn, then a new roof being put on and the smell of hot tar, and now the "Maui snow" from a burning cane field! Eventually everything will get done and we can open our doors again and let in the sweet breezes and ocean smells again.

Yesterday I went to my ortho doc about my leg which I broke back in 2002 and it has started bothering me lately. I have stopped walking on the beach because it was painful. He told me that the only thing we could TRY would be removing the screws and rod from my leg. I told him, no way........that sounds like it could be worse than what I am dealing with now. He said I COULD walk on the beach...just to make the first walk short, and then add more each day. That was good news! I was afraid my walking days were over.

I hope all of you dealing with difficult situations see the light at the end of the tunnel, and that this weekend brings some laughter into your life. I read somewhere recently a cute little quote that said "Laughter is the best kind of vacation."

Karen.....I'm so glad you are feeling better, and I hope you have the best of times in Italy. I don't envy you the long airplane rides, but I do envy the time you'll have in Italy. Remember to laugh a lot!!

Sending lots of aloha to all of you......

karen-are the rod and screws crucial to your leg or simply left over from before?
i ask becuz when i broke my ankle in '94-3 places- they encouraged me to have the metal and screws removed after about 8 months; telling me that if i fell they could act like a crowbar under concrete and make the next break worse than the first...believe me i was thinking this as i fell almost two weeks ago!!!

anyhow- just wondering!

I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult.

Aloha Margo.......Well, he said that he could "TRY" to remove the screws and the titanium rod that goes from ankle to knee, but one of the screws is broken could have become part of the bone and would be difficult to get out. He made it sound like it would be a long, tedious surgery with no guarantee of success. I said "no thanks." Maybe if I ever get to the point where the pain is unbearable, I might rethink that surgery.

Thanks for the input!

Aloha nui loa,

Maui Karen
