I have been on the RNY site for awhile.  I had my RNY on 09/22/09.  While I am home recovering I was looking around and found this forum.   Nice to find people my own age.  Sounds like a place I will visit more often.

Hi,

Welcome to OFF! It's a great place to hang out. I've been here since 2004 a year before I had lap RNY. This IS my support group. I've been to some locally but none quite click like this one does.

I read your profile. Sounds like you've already made some very positive strides. Your "twinone" caught me. I have 18 month old twin grand daughters who are the light of my (and my husband's) lives!

I like to  know where people are from. Do you mind sharing in general terms? Also perhaps a first name that we can get to know you by? If you'd rather remain more private I understand. I just like to picture names and places.

Be sure to write in that profile often this first year. It's great to look back later and see how far you have come.

Once again welcome. I'll be out of touch until about the 20th of October. Headed to Italy with a friend on Sunday. . . This from a person who in Feb of 2005 weighed 377 lbs and had had both knees replaced among other things.

Speaking of the horses you mentioned I RODE  my first horse of any kind two years ago. . . a beautiful Tennessee Walker who knew much more about the process than I did thank goodness! Don't be a stranger. This is a nice smallish group so we have lots of personal support for each other.

Karen;

Thanks for the kind welcome.  My name is Laurel (my twin is Laura).  I was born 1st (hence twinone).  I was born 20 minutes to midnight, Laura was breach and came 10 minutes after midnight.  We are identical but have different birthdays.  I absolutely love being a twin.  I hope your grand daughters remain as close as my sister and I.  I have to admit that because I have a twin I never really had a lot of girlfriends.  I guess it is because I already had a built in friend who always understood me.

Enjoy your trip.  Someday I hope to go to portugal and spain.  I am 1/2 portugese and would like to learn a little about that side of my heritage.  My other side is Native American.  When I figure out how to do the pictures I will add a picture of myself.  Right now the Native horse was as close as I could come.

Laurel,

Pretty name, actually my name is a derivative of it. . .Also enjoyed reading about your twin with a twist, so to speak by virtue of you having different birthdates. . .

Anyway, welcome to this wonderful place, where support and experience abound and where we share our WOW moments, our joys and encourage one another on this lifelong journey.  I've been a participating member of this forum for over 2 years now and it has become an extended family, we even have an occasional squabble, but just like family, we usually work it out!  Look forward to getting to know you and sharing in your experiences.

Best wishes, Laureen

Welcome to OFF.  You'll find a great bunch of people here.   Congrats on your recent RNY.  I'm five weeks out, so we're pretty close in surgery dates!

Hello Laurel and WELCOME to OFF!!!!!!!

I read your profile....you are going to fit in here thats for sure!

I am a twin...although mine is a brother...it is great!

I hope you stop in often. This really is an awesome board. People are so nice and we have none of the bickering that goes on at so many of the other boards.

Have a great day....hugs....connie d

Hi and welcome to the board:

I'm the Eileen that Margo was referring to. I too have Barrett's, but no pre-cancerous cells have been found. I have to have an EGD every two years. The last EGD done last November found unspecified changes, so I have to have another one done this year. I was told after RNY I wouldn't have to take PPIs anymore or chew Tums, but four days after surgery, I started having heartburn again (on liquids!). And now I'm back to twice a day Nexium. So much for that promise! I still have reflux.

I too have knee arthritis and back arthritis. I got a knee replacement on my right knee in Feb. 2007, and then had to have a revision last December. It's still not great, even after losing 180 pounds. I don't think it's ever going to be as good as other people's replacements. I don't think I'm going to be one of the lucky ones. My back is better since losing, though. I get injections for back pain every three months, and they actually work better since losing weight. But arthritis is a progressive disease. I also have fibromyalgia. Pain is a constant part of my life, unfortunately. I try to live with it ... some days are better, some are not.

We're a good group here and I hope you'll stick around. Tell us more about yourself ... your name, where you live (at least the state).
