Saturday's What's New Revue

Good morning to you my dear OFF family. I feel like things might be going back to normal now when I am able to say that in the morning as I post on this wonderful daily thread.

Nothing is new and yet that isn't true either. I guess that all the new things are just becoming daily things now and I am glad about that. So with that being said I am going back to what is new with me today and what I have planned.

I just had a shock while sitting here...I have the television on and some show that is called Noonboy came on. Well, when they began singing the song about this show I swear that he sang Nudeboy and I about had a fit. Well, I pushed the info button and it wasn't that but when he talks on the show and says Noonboy he still sounds like he is saying Nudeboy. I think that they should check stuff like that before they hire speakers...they just don't understand that us old folks don't always hear like we use to!!!

My BFF called me yesterday and asked if I still had my mom's walker and then told me that she fell at work and did something to her knee again. Several years ago she was getting off the train and tore her meniscus in her knee and was told that she had to have a replacement but since she was in her mid 40's they didn't want to do it then. He went in and repaired the knee and cleaned it up and she has been fine. Well, we thought that was the problem but she called me last night and told that there is so much swelling but they are pretty sure that she broke her kneecap. Oh my, I wanted to vomit when she told me the sound that happened when she fell. So I went and got mom's walker from the storage and took it and put in her garage for when they got home. She has to keep off the knee this week end and with Ella that is going to be a hard one. Her little granddaughter is there for the week end with her daughter and so Izzy might keep her occupied and down in the chair at least. I sure hope so. Ella is a lot like me...pigheaded! But you never would have known that I was pigheaded now would any of you? ha ha

The sun is out today...better than it has been around here for the last few days. We have had so much rain the last several days that we had huge puddles all over along with sopping ground. Now with the sun out that is wonderful. I am happier with the sun out. It is cold and they are saying that we might be having snow tomorrow. If we get some of that dreaded white stuff tomorrow then we will break a record for the first snow of the season by one day. Not sure on when that record was made though...they didn't say what year that was.

Misty is getting older just like Bill and I. She isn't as active now and she just kind does not much. She is seven and considered a senior kitty now. I went and got her some new food yesterday. I got her some senior food and I am hoping that helps her better. She is so picky with food. She eats nothing but Purina cat chow indoor formula and so I mixed some of the new with her old food and I am hoping that she eats it and doesn't know that it is in there. I got up this morning and there was some new food on the floor so I hope that it is just because she does that and didn't knock it out and eat the old food. With her you never know. I had a dog that didn't like pieces of some of the food she had to snack on (the dry stuff) and she would spit out the ones that she didn't like. I was funny to see her spit them out. I never knew that they could spit like that but she was good at it. ha ha

Well, I think that I will get moving now and do some things around here that I want to get done. I am hoping that I get something accomplished but with Bill home it seems like not much gets done anymore. I just can't figure that one out but I guess that is nothing new...I can't figure out a lot of things anymore. Such is life I guess.

Have a good one and know that I am sending my love and hugs to everyone and prayers are being said for all too. Have a great one and I will chat later on with you all. I have a gazillion e-mails to sort through....oh dear something seems to tell me that most are getting deleted. I hate going to my e-mails when I have been gone...hotmail is probably wondering what happened. ha ha

Have a good one!

It's not what you gather, but what you scatter
that tells what kind of life you have lived.

Brenda, you just don't know how good it is to be reading your posts again.  They just make me feel good.  You are such a kind loving person, you are very missed when you are away.
I'm trying out a new church today with a lady (and her husband) that I met at the woman's club meeting that my cousin dragged me to.  This will be the second church I'm trying out up here.  When I find one I really like, then I'll take Gary there and tell him this is where we're going.  I do all the research and he comes along for the ride!  He's such a good guy.
I'm a bit worried about our health care insurance.  Both of us have doctors appts in November, gary for foot surgery and me with my pcp.  When I changed my address for my pension, they said it may change my health care options.  I know that my HAP insurance isn't available up here in northern michigan, but I want to continue with it until December 1.  They couldn't tell me if it would still be in effect for November or not, and what options I have available here in Northern Michigan.  That really sucks.  I can't even find a new doctor up here yet, because I don't know what insurance options I'll have.  Gary's pension plan has been taken over by the government, so we're not sure what's going to happen there either.  Things are really up in the air for us right now.  He just may need to get a job up here doing something, maybe even at $10.00 an hour.  We'll just wait and see.
Well, I've been a bit long winded here.  Sorry.

The snowing up here came over your reply ... so it must be snowing pretty hard.

No snow here ... yet... but it has rained every day this week. We actually had sun this morning, but now it's clouding up again. I can see that from the office because I have a window.

Jani,
The government is having open season now. My husband is a retired federal employee.
I have BCBSPPO Standard option and I can go anywhere in the country I want.

My husband is covered under my GM Retirement Health Care.  His pension doesn't include health care.
It is what it is.

Good luck on your house Margo

I just got back from Austin on a business meeting. It was an intense busy four day meeting but good to see my co-workers whom I only see once a year. We all work from our homes which are are all over Texas. Our most fun activity was a "white elephant, steal a gift exchange". It is so much fun to watch the stealing especially when the person who chose the gift really liked it and then someone steals it. There were all kinds of food I don't normally eat like pizza, cake, doughnuts, pastries, cookies, etc. Glad to be back home eating healthy food.

Houston had a cold front come through yesterday. We dropped from the 90s yesterday to what is supposed to be the 70s as a high today. It is a pleasant 57 now. Have not seen these temps since early last spring. Will enjoy it while I can as it will be back in the 80s next week.

Going to meet friends for our monthly brunch now.

Hi Margo and my OFF family:

Well, by now your showing should be over, so I'm a little late swinging the chickens ... I do have part of a rotisserie chicken sitting in the fridge I could swing ... does that count?

I did a really klutzy thing yesterday in the shower. I had bought these giant bottles of shampoo at the salon a month or so ago. They were on sale fairly cheap for salon shampoo/conditioner ... liter bottles, cost $25 for the two bottles. But they're huge and don't fit in my shower caddy, so I have to put them on one of my shelves, and even there, they don't fit well. The bottles have fallen a couple of times and I've dodge them. Not yesterday. The shampoo bottle hit me in the left foot, right below the toes. OUCH!  The foot was kinda swollen yesterday, it was hard to wear my shoe and it was very bruised. I took slippers to work (flip flops wouldn't do it, too cold, but my slippers are lined with sheepskin). I wore my regular shoe in the car, but then changed into slippers at work. I iced it a couple of times and it seems better today. Still very bruised, a wonderful shade of red and purple. If it felt bad this morning, I was going to go to urgent care (it's not an ER case), but it seems OK. If it still hurts a lot on Monday, I'll call the podiatrist. I don't think I've broken anything because I can walk on it and flex it OK ... can't really stand on my tip-toes very well, but I don't plan to dance in the ballet tonight anyway! Anyway, last night was a painful one for me and sleep didn't come easily because of that pain, as well as the ones in my knee and my back. I have another week before I go to the pain doc for my shot.

Seems a lot of us aren't sleeping well. I didn't get to sleep before 4 a.m. either, but then I didn't get home until nearly 1 and then to bed before 3. Still have to work tonight yet and only one day off before going back to work again. It's a long week.

At least work was pretty routine last night. No major problems, very smooth but I really did have problem staying awake.

Well, have a good day. I should get some lunch before I go to work.
