Aloha Grammylew..........I can only imagine how you must be feeling about upcoming chemo. I love what the others say about the "new" chemo that has much less side effects than you used to hear about. From your postings it is obvious that you are a strong woman, and will handle this challenge the very best you can.

You will be in my thoughts and I will be watching for your updates.

With so much aloha,

Maui Karen

My thoughts are with you. My mom had problems after radiation for her breast cancer (and she's in her 80s, very small tumor) ... she didn't want to eat or drink, ended up in ER for dehydration. So you know how important it is to eat and drink. If nothing else, get in a protein drink and your water.

We're all here for you. Wish I could be there for you and help you out, but I'm in Michigan and have to work.

I went through six months of chemo back in '02.  While it was hard, the dr. was able to prescribe anti-diarrhea (sp?) meds for me that  helped a whole bunch.  I learned my body's timebable quite quickly and could predict with accuracy when I shouldn't leave the house.

I made it through and have been cancer free for 7+ years now.

I had a wonderful oncologist whose attitude really helped me cope with everything.

I, too, had a port in my chest and I'm glad I did since I have really tricky veins.  It made it much easier.

I'm sending up good thoughts for you as you enter into this next phase of life.

Where in Oregon are your grandchildren?  We live on the Central Oregon Coast.

Take good care of yourself.

Thank you all for your encouraging words.  I KNOW chemo is the best step, but I am apprehensive.  I don't like NOT being in control and able to do things for myself.

The grandkids we will be babysitting are in Oregon City.  We have one in Eugene, too.  But he is 21.  I will get to see him while I am there, as well.

I can so relate to being apprehensive about chemo. It is so hard to be the sick patient.

I will be thinking of you and sending positive vibes your way. Cancer is beatable. There will be really hard moments to come. I found blessings in my journey and I am sure you will too. Be gentle with yourself.

Oregon City and Eugene are a couple of hours from us. We live in Newport.

Prayers are being offered for you.
My husband had cancer in '95 and is doing great but tires easily.  He also had a port for the chemo and is doing well most days.
Let others help you with driving and such.  Many of us wish we could be with you to help you out.
