Susan i was at 3 years in August , i have gained about 5 pounds back and it doesnt seem to want to move but i am starting as of today back to ground zero. and doing exactly what i was told to do right after surgery for the first 4 or 5 weeks . will see if i can get the carbs out of my system....and this time maybe for good. I think at 3 years we become sort of complacent and think we are normal now. not true ....we are hybrids and always will be.....lol ..i like to think of us as like the new hybrid cars, it takes less gas to run them as it takes less food to run us. lol ....but i am with you about no one seems to respond to us oldies anymore so it makes us feel sort usless on here. i hope you get some good answeres about what to do for this weight gain. i know i am trying and will hope it will work. maybe even get some of the amount off that i never got off in the first place lol ....love you and hope you get there...keep coming on the board ...i for one will respond to you...i promise.

Hey Jan,
My doc says that we don't malabsorb less (meaning absorbing more) we MAL-EAT more!  His possibly right, there are things that occasionally sneak back onto my plate, but I have more trouble eating enough vs eating too much. Some days at work it's just impossible to even grab a bite. I keep almonds and protein drinks at work, and that helps, but then in the evening I have to catch up, and that's not good either!

Thanks for the friendship and encouragement. Hugs and smoochies

Susan

Susan,

You say you've spoken to your doctor at length about this, but have you had any bloodwork lately?  Are your hormone levels OK (especially thyroid)?  No vitamin deficiencies?

Maybe it's just time to change things up - try a different exercise routine, a different mix of foods - if you've been eating 40% of your calories in protein, 20% carbs, 20% fats, for example, switch to 35% protein, 35% carbs, 30% fats, or whatever.

Hi Jean,

All of my labs were fine in Sept, and I'll have them done again in March. My doc only requires them once a year now, but I go with every 6 months...better to keep an eye on things, right?

As I told Debbiejean, I got a Wii for Christmas and it's really fun. Maybe that will help get my motor revved up again

Hi Susan,
I'm sorry you've been feeling this way about not posting.  Sometimes I do too (not here, specifically on OFF but other places).

Anyway, it's good to boost the exercise and icrease the calorie intake if you're below what you're supposed to be taking in.

The other thing I can think to recommend is to look at what you are eating.  I'm really bad at writing things down but I know it's supposed to help.  It's more important to get in the protein and then fill in after that with fruit, vegetables and complex carbs.  Simple carbs and everything else should either go or be the very last on the list of things to eat.  Weigh****chers has a really great, balanced plan.  I don't know if you'd want to do that.

Anyway, wish you well and that's what we're all supposed to be here for, right?  To support each other?

See, that's where I'm so messed up!  I follow the rules, I journal everything, to the point of obsession, and still I've gained this 10 lbs.

I'm thinking I might shell out the $100 for another consultation with my Nut. Can't go see her until I've been exercising for a bit though. It will be the first thing she'll ask.

That's so frustrating to be doing everything you're supposed to be doing and still gain weight!  :P  And the doc says it has nothing to do with your metabolism slowing down with age?  Or is that why you're supposed to increase the exercise?

I happened to talk to my PCP's nurse today, about a different matter, and I brought this up to her. She and my doc are very supportive and know how compliant I've been. She says that if upping my exercise and calories doesn't help, then I should come in and have some blood work done.

I'm glad to hear that they're so supportive and that they'll do some blood work if increasing your exercise and boosting the calories don't help.  Best wishes to you!

Hi Susan,

I have missed your posts and I was going to send you a Holiday Greeting but I have been busy and have neglected my friends here.   I think it is a new year and we need to get back to our regular schedules.  That means eating right.  I gained three pounds over the holiday and trying to get back to my diet.  It is hard once you go off of it and the pounds you put on don't want to come off.

I hope you don't feel like you can't post.  You have many things to offer here.  I try to read every post.  Sometimes I don't answer everyone.  Know I think it is important what and when you do write.

Don't feel sad, everyone gets that way once in awhile.

Come back and feel like you are important to us.  You are.
