Hi Carla and my OFF family:

I've been up since 9:30 a.m. but been out and about. Went to get the oil changed in my car; mechanic told me I need to have work done on the tumblers on the lock on the driver's side (I knew it was problematic ... I have problems every day getting into car). His thought was to take it to the dealer and it would probably cost $200. Great ... just what I don't need. But then I can't afford a new car now. It was on my list of things to get this year or next, but now I'm going to be unemployed ... oh well.

After the oil change, I went to Walgreens for a few things, PetsMart for cat supplies, then went to Lowe's to see if I could get some plastic crates to put Christmas decorations in. I'd like to get everything out of cardboard boxes in case I have to move. I found a great crate on wheels that my ceramic Christmas tree should fit in ... it's so wide and high (3-feet) that I can't find anything to put it in other than this cardboard box I got when I moved. This was marked down from $28 to $18 something. Well, great buy, but I couldn't get it in the car because my back doors don't open anymore and it wouldn't fit in the trunk or the front seat. So I had to put it in the trunk and leave the lid open. I was going to go to Hallmark after, but decided just to go home because it wasn't far.

We had a staff meeting last night about all the changes happening at the paper. Boy, I'm kinda glad I'm going. It's going to be very tough on the ones staying. They're going to work like dogs (and I hear more pay cuts on the way). In a way, this must be all for the best. One of the Muskegon editors remarked that Lisa and I were taking this well ... I brought up my brother Gary's line (stolen from Bruce's wife, Rita) ... "I have a drug for that." Later, another coworker asked me what the drug was ... I said, "The antidepressants are working really well." I don't think I would have gotten through this as well without them. Better living through chemistry!

I meet with the outplacement counselor Friday at 3:30 p.m., so I have to go in early. Probably will pick up something at work then. Kim is talking about going out for a beer after work to celebrate the end of my bankruptcy.

Anyway, it's time for lunch. I'm hungry and tired, and I have to get garbage ready to go out for tomorrow yet. Busy, busy day.

Have a good one.

I thought about you last night, Eileen.  I'mbe facing a similar situation at work real soon.   LIke in a day or two.... (Funny how you see things coming.)

I also have "drugs for that" and am trying to look at this as a good thing. I'm also kinda relieved.  It's good to read about your progess through the stages of shock and acceptance and reconciliation, because I'm right behind ya!

Hi Carla and all my OFF friends,
Happy Birthday Evelyn.   Mary, I hope your Dad has a swift recovery.  George, I hope Mack returns safely. Connie, I hope all Carrie's contacts work to find her a job.  Judy, all the talk about your afghan made me buy some yarn on sale at Joanns.  I'll be starting it this weekend.  It's especially nice to have part of an afghan on your lap with these cold temps.
Our tickets for the Martina McBride & Trace Atkins concert on Jan. 30 came in the mail yesterday.  Hubby also brought home the itinerary for the wives for his conference in Newport, RI in April.  Visiting the mansions, sightseeing, trip to the casino, wine tasting.  Really sounds fun.  Hubs only gets to go to the casino on Sunday night before the conference starts, then he's in class every day while I get to play.  The hotel is right on the water downtown so it's close to shopping too.
Sunday I'm meeting my sisters and cousins for brunch.  Two cousins I haven't seen since October so it will be nice to catch up.
Sticking to my eating plan and getting more exercise.  I will be down by my niece's wedding, I will!
