Pain meds
I am out 3 years from RNY surgery. The surgeon cautioned to use NO asprin, but Tylenol was OK. Tylenol doesn't do anything at all. (I have a painful lower abdominal problem.)
Are any of you taking anything that works better than Tylenol? I've tried ibuprofen and others, but nothing works like aspirin.
Any ideas? I'm seeing the surgeon in a couple of months and will ask, but was wondering if anyone has an answer now.
Thanks,
Rudie

Percogesic is what i take, IT isnt a script but it is behind the counter though at Wal mart or where ever you shop. IT DOES MAKE ME SLEEPY so be sure to take it at home when you try it.
No reason it should as nothing there from what the druggist said to make me like that but it does so be sure to try it at home.
It works wonderfully

I have really bad arthritis in my back and knees, and a failed knee replacement (times two) in the same knee, so I'm in pain all the time. The only thing that works for me is vicodin. I have gotten scripts for Ultram too, and that's OK ... it's not as sedating as vicodin, but at this point for me, vicodin doesn't knock me out anymore anyway. My body is used to it. I only use two a day at the most unless I'm in severe pain mode (which is usually if I have to drive to Chicago and back in two days).
I have arthritis and can't take antiinflamatoriies either. So.....the only thing I can take for pain is oxycodin (which I won't take because one can become addicted and it make me feel odd) and tramadol. I have been taking tramadol for at least 2 years. Don't know if it will help you as everyone reacts differently to meds but you might ask your doctor's oppinion. It is a prescription.

Ultram or tramadol can interact with some medications and it also has a addictive property to it just like narcotics. I have severe arthritis in my hip and upper back, I take prescription pain medication. There is a difference between physical addiction and abuse of a medication. If you need pain med to do your activities of daily living then take it.
Pain causes the body to stress and over time that taxes the body and will make it more prone to disease and injury-like stomach ulcers- and it will interfere with your mood and relationships. A little medication can go a long way.
Talk to your doctor, tell him/her exactly how much the pain is interfering with your life. If the doc does not take you seriously then find a doctor who does. You will be amazed how many people take prescription pain meds to be active in their day.
