I'm in Santa Cruz and drowning!

Aloha from your oh so cold sister NOT ON MAUI!

I'm in Santa Cruz at my son's house and they left at 4:00 a.m. to ski in Montana for five days. My three little grandsons, 5, 3, and 20 months are keeping me jumping, but they are all three at different daycares or school until 4:30 so I have time to unravel. It is constant motion around here with three little boys!!

My trip has had the extra challenge of the worst storms in years here in the San Francisco Bay area. This was my first morning getting them all fed, dressed (boots, raincoats, etc.) and I could use a nap!!

My former sister in law is staying in my Maui condo and she is,of course, having gorgeous weather! I'm glad she's there to watch my kitties, and to have some fun.

I had to borrow sweatshirts and rain jackets from my son....and happily they are HUGE on me. I'm eating rather oddly here......grabbing a protein bar now and then, and trying to remember to drink water. I was 155 when I left Maui....I sure hope I don't lose any more on this trip. Last year I lost 10 lbs when I took care of the three little munchkins for a week while my big kids were in Switzerland. At least this year they are in Montana Big Sky, so I feel much better that they are not half way around the world.

My former husband is on his way over........this is my son's father, and grandpa to all our 3 little boys. We just heard on the news that a giant redwood tree has fall across the main access highway to Santa Cruz, so he might not be coming over after all. It will be good to see him whenever he gets here.

I'm going to read a bit to find out how you all are. I miss you, and this was my first chance to get on my son's computer. Sending hugs and hoping you are all having a good day.

Aloha nui loa,

Maui Karen (In Calif.)

I think I have moss growing under my arms it's so wet here in Chehalis. Mike and Maggie went home this morning. I"m staying over for a few days. Sick twins, sick son in law, pregnant daughter needing some mamma care. I'll take the bus or train home about Sunday if I survive that long. Maui would be lovely right now!

Aloha my sweet friend......You have your hands full, too, I see!! So sorry everyone is sick. I hear a lot of coughing from my little ones, too....but so far not really sick. Their grandfather is a pediatrician so he seems to recommend giving them nothing but good food as long as they are eating.

I just dropped off Brady (3) to day care, Brocky (5) to kindergarten, and little Z (Zaney) to his very nice day care lady who takes little ones. Zane has been very happy since mommy and daddy left. I was afraid that at 20 months that would be the period where separation anxiety really can set it.....but I got in enough tutu time before I left so that he's not missing them so much

Ah, now I have about six hours to unwind....clean house, do laundry, and take NAP!! Without my naps, I'm afraid I would turn in to Oscar the Grouch. The little ones are sweet, adorable and good ......most of the time. The fighting is the hardest part.....hate that.

Anyway, take care of YOUR little ones and big ones. It actually feels good to be on the mainland for awhile. Not like the amount of rain, but nice to see rain again.....very rare on Maui.

Aloha nui loa,

Maui Karen

Of all the times to come to California- haha! I feel your pain. My daughter just called and said our fence blew down this morning. This morning I saw a highway patrolman guiding a caravan on the freeway because of the high winds and rain. How long will you be here?

Aloha Julia.......Having this horrible weather was a bit difficult at first, but I'm getting used to it now...a little. I am borrowing my son's big raincoat and hoodie....so I keep warm and dry while taking kids all over town. I would much rather stay home under a blanket with a good book...but scheduled have to be followed!

My worry is the lights going out!! I only have four small utility candles, and a couple of flashlights. So far, so good.

I will be leaving next Wed. the 27th very early in the morning. Will be back on Maui around 1:30 in the afternoon...if all goes well.

So nice to see you!

Aloha nui loa,

Maui Karen

Isn't this weather wild?  What a time to be visiting California!  It's like a monsoon up north here.  I lost a few boards from my fence and I'm a bit worried about a couple of trees.

Hang in there and stay dry!

Aloha dear Connie.....Ha...I wish he did have a boat!! I am exhausted a lot with three little ones to bathe, feed, dress, entertain, etc. But I also have my "golden moments" when I get hugs and kisses that make all the difficult parts fade away.

You, too, on keeping dry and warm.

Aloha nui loa,

Maui Karen
