This forum was recommended by someone on the VSG forum. I will be having surgery March 3 and I am 61. I was worried because of my age and being totally out of shape. I live a pretty sedintary life style, Has anyone had success with the gastric sleeve or gastric bypass in their 60's?
Thanks in advance
Laurie

Hi Laurie,

I had my surgery less than a year ag.  I am 57.  I have hqad no problem.  Can tolerate everything and healed just fine.

You will be ok, there are others who have had sugery in their 60's.  On another board I read that one woman was 73 and had no problems.

March 3rd is my birthday!

Good luck and I know you be just fine.  Welcome to the board.  I know you will like it here

Peace
Mary

I am on my way.  What a ride it has been.

Welcome Laurie,

I had RNY when I was 59 years old. Started at 320 lbs, 3 years later I am 114 lbs. It takes work to get the hang of new eating patterns but well worth the effort.

there are a lot of us on here that were over 60 when they had surgery , i was 65 and you couldnt have gotten much more sedintary than i was but as the weight starts to come off you will feel more like doing things  and it is good to walk and walk and walk  the more you walk the more weight you will lose...as you lose you might want to try water aerobics if you are near a place that teaches. most people that take water aerobic classes are older ladies and out of shape so no need to feel self concious. ...you will be fine and i do have a friend that had my doctor do her gastric bypass just recently that was 69 so age is no problem...attitude is. ...

Thanks Jan!
I am going to join a gym that does not cater to people under 50. There is one right around the corner at memorial hospital with daily classes of water aerobics. Right now if I move from room to room I have to sit down in between. I will be glad to see the light at the end of the tunnel, get off some of the many medications I am on, as well as my happy pills!
