Hi I am new here
Hi Laurie! Welcome to OFF!
I was 59 when I had my surgery. I had absolutley no complications and was amazed at how fast the weight came off, and the medical issues disapeared! I had severe edema, joint pain, congestive heart failure, borderline diabetes, and its all gone along with 140 extra pounds!. I had my surgery over 4 years ago and life changed drastically for the better..get ready for the GOOD LIFE!!
Be Blessed

Laurie, You will find that you can relate with us more mature (age wise) people. We have a lot of the same things going on in our lives. I'm 7 months out from my surgery and 58 years old. It's true, once you start losing the weight, you'll find that you have a lot more energy and want to do more. I used to absolutely hate shopping, but now I find I really enjoy it, because the clothes fit better and look better. My health has improved immensely. You'll be amazed and totally pleased. Welcome home....:) You'll find us a loving and considerate family.

Hi Laurie,
Welcome. I'm "only" 54 and just had the VSG, but since I also have pretty severe Multiple Sclerosis I feel I have more in common with the "older" people here, in terms of the sedentiary life style, meds, etc. I'm putting all my bets on the VSG helping me lose the weight so I can improve my MS symptoms and the quality of my life, which at this point is below zero.
