Jani:

I developed Hashimoto's ten years ago, and still have the multinodular goiter, but the TSH level as well as T3 and T4 uptakes were normal in Sept., so the Dr. took me off synthoid, and when he checked again in Feb. the thyroid was still working, so he says to stay off the Synthroid and check back in 6 months.  Go figure.

I am allergic to Aspirin so I was taking Ultram by the handfuls prior to surgery.  The pain to my feet, knees, hips, and lower back stopped immediately after surgery.  I don't know why, I'm just thankful it did.  I was taken off my diabetic and half my B/P meds the day of surgery.  The other B/P pill was gone within 1 month.  The Ultram is pretty much history.  I don't take it every day any more.  Just occasionally when I've pulled a muscle or something and Tylenol isn't quite enough.  Life is grand after weight loss.

I find it amazing what food does to our bodies.  We eat so many unhealthy foods and don't realize it.  Since surgery my joints no longer hurt, minor pain once in a  while but not the hurt like before.

I can move with ease and can get up & down from the floor easily.  I sleep better and do not have the headaches as before.

When you drink lots of fluids you flush out your system and it makes the organs function better too.  These are all things we have heard over the years but our addiction to food keeps us from hearing it clearly....

My whole body is functioning better....  I can really tell when the foods I eat react negatively in my system.....

You will have many WOW moments in your journey ! !   Enjoy them...

Millie your response actually brought tears to my eyes.  I am so amazed at this yet so ashamed of what I have done to my body and am a victim of my own abuse.

I hope it continues for you. I've lost 125lbs and still have pain in my knees and right hip. I take 4 Ultram a day, mainly for an Achilles heel tenson problem, but it doesn't do much for my knees. I did recently discover Rapid Release Tylenol...it works!

Not sure about the VSG but with an RNY there is NO NSAIDS after surgery. Check with you surgeon.

Darlene - Nsaids are allowed, but I would like to get off of them if possible.  I can't help but think they could do harm after a VSG just as much as it could after RNY or lapband.

Hi Wanda,
What a wonderful side effect you have to the liquid diet! One thing I have noticed since weight loss surgery is that my food allergies are gone. I used to have horrible reactions to certain foods- hives, swollen vocal folds, severe swelling in my face, especially lips, etc., in fact, the night before surgery I had a very severe reaction to some fruit juice (it was so bad that I was afraid to tell the doctor the next morning because I thought he might postpone the surgery-so I didn't tell him), but since surgery I don't think I've had any allergic reactions to food, even the ones that I had been allergic to for as long as I could remember. I hope this continues- but I have no idea what happened to take them away... the body and it's workings are surely mysterious...

Wow Julia you were brave not to tell the doctor!  I would have been afraid NOT to tell. LOL  But obviously you are alive and kickin' so all worked out well.  Isn't it amazing that your food allergies are gone?  I am just astonished by this pain free business.  I keep knocking on wood so it doesn't stop.

I used to suffer from leg and hip and back pain terribly. I had surgery on both feet because of having been so heavy for so long,,and I suffered from edema constantly. I could barely wear any shoes except tennis shoes because the swelling was so severe. My husband being in the ministry gave us cause to dress up often, and I always felt ugly.

However, when I had my surgery, within a few days all those things were gone. I never swell anymore unless I eat an abundance of sugar, which unfortunately I can do without dumping.
I have no pain at all, am on only one small medication for slightly elevated blood pressure.

The effects of WLS are amazing and varied..prepare yourself for one exciting ride!

Blessings
Betsy
