Saturday-- In Sunny Orlando
Hi Laureen and my OFF family:
Well, goodbye springlike weather on the first day of spring. It's snowing today. Our weather people said it wouldn't stick, but it's sticking, at least to the grassy areas. And of course, with the lousy weather comes a headache for me and body aches. Oh well, no big plans on the agenda.
I did strip the bed this morning while the cats were eating so I could put clean sheets on before they got back on the bed. Made coffee, added my protein for my protein coffee and by the time I was done with getting things in the washer and making up the bed, the coffee was ready. I may not get out of my jammies today ... I may drive my car down to the mailbox (this is being really lazy).
Otherwise, it's basketball and reading today. I may make some guacamole ... avocados were part of the 10 for $10 and one free special at Meijer, so I bought a couple and decided guacamole sounded good. I usually just buy guacamole ready-made, but decided I would try making it myself this time.
Well, that's all for me. Don't like this weather, but what can I do? I'm stuck here. Have a good day.

Good- Morning-Enjoy the nice weather everyone, we have snow, sleet and ice. Hopefully for the last time. It was just 70 here 2 days ago and is supposed to be back around there Mon or Tues. Really Wierd!
Laureen- Have a wonderful time on your trip! The grandkids grow up so fast.......
Candy- When do you retire? What did you do? It's so exciting starting a new chapter in your life.
Tuesday I'm starting water aroebics. It's a low impact for arthritis. Still hate the idea of putting on a bathing suit. Shopping for one was painful! At least not as bad as it would have been 50 lbs ago. Today I'm going to put away the winter clothes and clean out the closets. It will either become spring or I will freeze to death. Nice obit. "she froze in March" (ha)

Margie (and whoever else might wonder or care....)
My last actual day of work will be approx April 28. Then I have some time to use up, and my actual retirement "date" is May 28.
I've been a nurse for about 100 years, last 13 have been in Corrections. It's past time to retire. The negativity has been getting to me for quite a while. I decided to take the plunge. It's been coming for the past 2 years, but the actual decision to sign the papers was pretty abrupt.
I've had a bad case of nerves for the past week. I have a friend who calls it "anticipation". Either way, sleep has been fleeting and planning for anything has been a lost cause, 'cause my state of mind has made it tough to concentrate.
Better today, though. There's something mindless about shopping at Walmart..... Mindless is good today...

Hi Laureen and the rest of you madcap crazies! Haha!!! I got through my crazy day yesterday and today is just a catch up with cleaning day! Maybe when this house is paid for (December I think!) I might be able to afford a housekeeper once a week. I'm so glad that you are able to retire this year Candy! I love the chain idea- I can tell that you are very excited. I haven't checked with the retirement counselor yet about retiring. I know I have to wait until I'm at least 60 or I will lose out on a lot of money. And medical insurance costs would kill my bottom line. Thank goodness I love most aspects of my job. My extra assignment will end in a couple of weeks so I can heave a sigh of relief then. School is really almost out even now. The last two months just fly by.
The weather in central California is just about perfect right now. It was 78 degrees yesterday and since we have the driest kind of heat most of the time, 78 feels like heaven on earth. I, too, need to switch out my closets for the summer wardrobe.
I guess that's it for me... we have a guy coming to give an estimate for a new fence. Ours is probably 25 years old and the last storm almost took it down for good.

Julia,
Have to last and sigh when I see 'will have the house paid off in December'. I am refinancing and will have mine paid off when I'm 96 now. And only to gain a drop of $150 and maybe another $50 for the over-65 tax freeze. Going to put that on my car and get it paid for in 2 years.... would never have gotten the house paid for anyway.. and the taxes and insurance are the big portion anyway... so as soon as the old employment runs out, this gal will be selling or leasing it and moving to something else. I'm sure looking at Panama... may need to check that out with Margo. She's been down there. I've a friend from there so do have a connection.. would hate to leave my family in the states, but darn.. I can't live on SS alone.
Pot of beans on the stove.. just made some Harvard Beets.. wonder what they eat at Yale?

Laughing at the Yale comment! Social security is not a great income is it? I always talk to my senior friends at TOPS about pooling our money and buying a big one story house to live in together and take care of each other. Also , in Manteca, where I live, they have lots of really nice subsidized apartments for seniors. I won't qualify for those but I would sure live in them if I did. Come on over to California!
Julia,
You have two great things to look forward to . . . paying off your house and retirement, those are two things I probably can't see happening in my lifetime . . . working in the private sector, buying a home later in life, the lawyer told me that the latin meaning to mortgage is "debt to death" well that about sums it up for me. But so long as I remain relatively healthy I won't worry about it. I wish my finances were different, mostly because I was looking at real estate down here in Florida, as I do whenever I visit, I could not live here all year, at least not now, but right now there are some beautiful properties, that because of the economy, you can pick up for under 60k, places that two years ago were selling for over 200k. . . it's nice to dream, dreams do come true if you work toward them, right now I am working towards getting through the mountain of debt doing my addition and Dillinger cost me, one thing that I planned when I had a different financial outlook, the other, well not planned. . . life changes on a dime and as I said before, I am grateful that it looks like I will live in relative good health for a bit longer thanks to WLS. . . Retirement is a big dream, I used to think I would do it at 66-1/2, now, well let's hope for a lotto win (lol). . .
Glad you like your job, that's a plus!

My Mantra is that I do not determine my success by the number hanging in my closet, nor will I let the scale determine that success either. . . It is through trial and error I will continue to grow and succeed. . . Laureen
