Hi Cindy and my OFF family:

Happy Mother's Day to all of you, if you are moms to human kids or furbabies like me. Scooter and Nettie let me sleep til nearly 9 a.m. today, that was their mother's day present to me (and believe me, that's a big present for Nettie, who insists on being fed the moment my eyes open). I woke up first at 7 a.m., was still really tired so went back to sleep with Scooter washing my arm and Nettie sleeping on my chest, purring.

I didn't sleep all that well ... my body has been hurting a lot because of the chilly weather and wind and rain. And I was getting really involved reading this book, "Here Be Dragons" by Sharon Kay Penman ... this is the first of her Welsh trilogy and follows her trilogy on Henry II and Eleanor of Aquitaine. This is really a good book. I read this til after 1 a.m. and finally was getting drowsy, but had a lot on my mind, probably because of the potential job interview, and what I would do if I got the job, how I would move down there because they're not paying relocation costs. So when I fell alseep finally, it was nearly 2, then I woke up at 3 a.m. in pain, had to take a pain pill to get back to sleep. I feel really tired today. Not that I have a lot planned anyway.

As so many of you were recalling your moms that are gone, I remembered that this is the first mother's day without my dear friend Margie, who was like a second mother to me. She was the one person I could cry to, confide in ... things you should be able to do with your mom, but I often couldn't do with my own mom because she never wanted to hear me cry, didn't want to know my problems. So I would call Margie, who was always there for me. I miss her so much. She died last year in June unexpectedly. I was so lucky to have had her in my life.

Well, I'm sure my mom will call soon ... she calls every Sunday about noon. I know she's going over to my brother Ed's today. Gary will be there, too; he's going to drive her home and drop off some stuff as he prepares for his move there. I doubt that my sister will be there. My mom understands why I didn't come down; I've promised to be there for her birthday (unless I'm moving to my new job).

Have a happy Mother's Day everyone!

Aloha OFF family....and HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY TO EVERYONE! This is a day of a bit of sadness for me because my kids are in Calif. and Oregon, so won't be seeing either of them. But, I am going soon to the beach to have coffee with friends beside the ocean. There is a lovely spot near Wailea that has picnic tables and you can sit and watch the surfers, the windsurfers, the paddle boats, the canoes, etc. Very lovely way to start the day. It's 7:45 a.m. right now, and the day is glorious. I think our whales are mostly headed back to Alaska, but my neighbor says she still sees the occasional moma and baby......guess she has to wait around til baby is strong enough for that LONG swim.

I hope you all have a lovely day.....and that something wonderful and surprising happens for you.

Aloha nui loa,

Maui Karen

Good Afternoon everyone!

It's a glorious day here in Seattle. This city is so gorgeous when the sun shines. There are snow capped mountains all the way around Puget Sound and Mt. Rainier snow covered towering over the entire area.

My husband Mike and his friend sailed away aboard the Norwegian Pearl about an hour ago. They are spending the week cruising the Inside Passage. I've been there done that twice so I dropped  them off and then headed up to spend the night with our son and his significant other.

They've been working in their yard all day. Both fair redheads I fear they may have a bit more red tomorrow. I admonished them to wear that sunscreen! Sure wish I had many years ago as my skin shows the effects of eastern Washington sunburns many years ago.

The twins and I took a wonderful walk yesterday morning. We walked across the road about 1/8 of a mile to a pasture containing 6 miniature horses. Hannah is into "mine" and of course they were "My ponies!" And Clara equally sure they were "My ponies!" Then we walked the other way about a fourth of a mile and saw butterflies, dogs, a stream and lots of birds. We kicked pine cones and threw rocks in the stream. Such fun to view nature through their eyes!

Tomorrow after I leave here I'll head to Copalis Beach on the coast to look at a house I want to rent for a few days in August. I like to look in person as pictures can be so deceiving sometimes. Then back to Erin's in Chehalis. Tuesday I'll meet Grammylew for lunch "in between" Oregon City where she is and Chehalis where I am!

The rest of the week will be busy. Baseball games, babies, cooking some, helping Erin with some household chores. She feels good but at  32 week pregnant with 2 yr old twins she gets tired. . Go figure!

Before I know it it will be Sunday and time to pick Mike up from the cruise and back down to Erin's before heading home next Tuesday.

Hope you're all having a nice weekend.

Karen C
