Wake up everybody - it's Saturday
Good Morning, All
Margaret, thanks for starting the thread.
Well, no one else may be up, but unfortunately, I am. WAAAY too early for me! I've been waking up every hour or two all night. I overdid "just a titch" yesterday. Man, do I hurt! This is one of the few times in the last few years that I miss my NSAIDS. My old friend Naproxen, or even some Ibuprofen would just hit the spot right now.
Yesterday I tackled the "sinkhole" in the far back yard. It was a neat little 12" diameter drainage hole filled with small rocks, where the underground downspout from the house drained into. That was 4 or 5 years ago. By the time I forced myself to do something about it yesterday (it's been on my "to-do" list for over 3 years), it was almost 5 feet across and filled with hostas that had washed into it from the perennial bed. I think it got bigger every time it rained, but that might just be my paranoia talking.
Four hours, a dozen patio blocks to shore up the sides, 6 wheelbarrows of dirt, and almost 800 lbs of stone later, it looks pretty good. If it floods out again, I'm gonna put in a pond. Why fight with nature?
Needless to say, I can barely move today, and my fingers are the size of little sausages, and nothing seems to want to bend.
But damn, it looks good!!!!
I will NEVER be a "lady" gardener.....
And people ask what I'm doing to keep busy since I've retired! Next big project is laying flagstone and brick walkways.
Not today, I think. I'm gonna do a rain dance instead, so I have an excuse to sit on my butt.
Everyone have a good weekend. I need more coffee.................

Oh Candy, I sure wish you were closer, I'd hire you to help with my yard. There isn't a single plant, bush, shrub or flower in the back, just grass. I have a brown thumb, and don't know a thing about planting in AR. I guess I'm just going to have to hire a landscaper, but I hate to spend that money.
Another busy day at the salon. If this keeps up I'll have the money to hire that landscaper, but wouldn't have the energy to go out the back door to enjoy the yard. Of course, 84% humidity and 95 degrees will keep me in the house anyway, so why worry???
Alrighty then, I'm off to get showered and get the putty on the face for the day. Hope you all have a wonderful one!
Still haven't heard from Eileen.

With that heat and humidity, I'd stay working in an air conditioned building and make the $$$ to hire some strong young thing with a nice tight a** (oh, wait, getting carried away here....) to do the yard work. That way, I'd have nice scenery while it was being done as well as after!
Seriously, I don't know what grows in that kind of climate. Something pretty, I'm sure, just gotta do some research. Our days are warm, evenings cooler, and sufficient rain during the Spring and Summer. Usually. Makes for pretty gardens, but the winters are LOOOONG!!
I'd love to visit, but that would be quite a road trip...

I'm afraid that about two hours out of Independence, MO I'd have sat down in my dust and waved goodbye and said, "Write when you can. . . " I always think I'm real tough but in reality not so much! I do like to make things from scratch, make new from old, that kind of thing. My mother definitely lives on in me, but pain? Not into that. I have a book of pioneer stories put together by a man in Walla Walla where I was born. One of the stories tells of the old and infirm walking for hours by moonlight to catch up with the wagons that had been circled in camp for hours. If you COULD walk you DID. . no matter how old you were. The wagons were filled with the necessities, infants, toddlers. . .tough people indeed.
