Hi Everybody, I have been on the go lately. I attended bariatric convention in Vegas. It was wonderful. The weather was hot and dry. We had a family reunion in the hills of northern Nebraska last weekend. We have had some flooding and hail. My nephew is joining the navy and he will be having a going away party this weekend. I am ready to kick back and stay home. Mona

It's hot here too. I turn on one AC so the cats are comfortable.

We had a fox on the deck last night. We think it was after the squirrels i feed out there. What a screaming racket. It knocked a plant off the deck but didn't have any squirrel in its mouth.

The fox sat under the wisteria for a while then sauntered into the woods. A pretty animal but I don't want it on my deck. The cats are usually by the screen and that's too close for comfort.

Annette, I'm laughing here.  It's been beastly hot and humid here for the past 4 days.  I have a window air conditioner in the bedroom so I can sleep, but the rest of the house is horrible.  I leave the bedroom air conditioner on during the day for the cats, even though I'm not in there, with the door open a crack so they can go in and out.  My chunky Honey has thick, thick fur, and while not a ball of fire in the best of conditions, is absolutely LIMP these past few days.  She only comes out to do her business, drink, and, of course, eat.

Who's the smart one here?

I'm trying to get ready for my son's visit.  He'll be here tonight, go back home on Sunday.  I usually do a marathon cleaning before he comes, as he's allergic to the cats.  Not this time.  I'll just stock up on Benadryl and Claritin for him.  I haven't even done my laundry because I don't want to run the dryer.  We're planning a cook-out on Saturday.  The guests may get canned tuna, because if the heat doesn't let up, I'm doing NOTHING to make me any warmer...  That's OK, they're family and friends, and they'll be here to see Jason.  Lotsa beer and pop.  That'll have to do.

Everyone try to stay cool, and hydrated.

Candy,

We have 3 window units but I only allowed Tom to put one in the kitchen this year. The house is comfortable. Too cold to have them in the bedrooms too.

Isabella would have heat stroke - she's hefty. The other cats don't mind the heat but I worry as the outside temps head to 100*.

Ahh what we do for our furbrats.

Couldn't live without central A/C ... I still tend to overheat really quickly. Scooter has a very dense coat, although he's not long-haired. He's Russian Blue and would swelter if I didn't have the air on in this climate ... it's so thick and muggy here. Seems he's become a real bird-watching junkie here ... he never cared before. And I really need to have the A/C on also because of my allergies. Don't know what to expect down here.

When I was driving down, I didn't even leave the car for very long ... just long enough for a potty stop at a McDonald's, or a gas station or a rest area ... I didn't want to close up the car for long because of Scooter in the back ... and then I'd bring him bac**** chips so he didn't get too dehydrated. I remembered from trips with Kittle and Cinnamon that they wouldn't go to the litter box on the road, or even drink or eat until we got where we were going. But I thought maybe the ice chips would at least keep him cool and hydrated a little because he'd get a little wet and be forced to lick himself dry.

So I'd stop at  McDonald's, get a grilled chicken snack wrap and an iced coffee ... black, no cream (the cashiers had a real problem understanding that) ... and then ask for ice chips for the cat. Then off we'd go.

Hi Cindy and all my OFF friends,
Well we hit triple digits yesterday and will again today.  We went to the concert on the green last night but left early ~ too hot.  There was a breeze but it was like when you open the oven and it takes your breath away.
Tonite I've got to get crackin' getting ready for the grandsons.  I've been using the spare bedroom as a catch all.  Things that really need to go in the basement like cans of paint, the Christmas wrapping center bag, etc.  It should take me about an hour to straighten up and give a thorough cleaning.  I've already stripped the bed.  It needs a good airing out but it's too hot to open the windows.  I also need to get the night light in there.
Hubby had a great idea.  We are taking the Grandsons to Dinosaur State Park next week for the day.  He found out there is a Rainforest Cafe not far away so that is where we'll take them for dinner.
I offered a friends daughter the chance to work for me for a day helping around the house.  I'm waiting to see if she is interested.  Her daughter is home from college and has not been able to find work for the summer.  I need a cleaning fairy like Connie has. LOL.
I ate things yesterday with too much salt.  I did however keep myself well hydrated.  This morning I get on the scale and I am up 5 lbs. from yesterday  ~ WHAT!.  I'm hoping it's all water weight.  Today, no salt.  Just fruit, veggies and some protein.
Going to have some Cherries now.  I love when they are in season.
Keep cool.

Bev, doesn't that blow your mind when the scales do that -- mine were up 3 lbs......back to a better food plan that does not include banana bread.

Pat,
You're sure right about that.  Of course, I couldn't believe it so I weighed myself again.  And yet there are days when I know I ate like an idiot the day before and I get on the scale and there were no consequences.  I had a bag of Fritos yesterday.  I'm thinking that did it.  I love salty things much more than sweet.  I'll behave today.

Hi Cindy and my OFF family:

Funny, but it's only 80 degrees here ... and cloudy. I'm sure it will heat up later. When I stepped out to get the paper (boy, it's nice to have a morning paper instead of an afternoon paper like in Grand Rapids), it still felt humid.

Maybe that's why my body  hurts ... back and right knee really hurt a lot. I've got an ice pack on my right lower back. Wish I had health insurance, I'd find a chiropractor. But I couldn't afford my Cobra this month, so no chiro. I'll pay for my vicodin and live on that. Next month, hopefully, I'll afford my Cobra (don't have benefits for 90 days ... and I hear the health insurance isn't as good as what I have now ... but it's insurance, and for that I'm grateful).

Scooter is settling into his new home. He now follows me around the apartment and insists on sitting on my lap a lot ... he is very jealous of my laptop. And he's extremely vocal and affectionate. I think he likes being an only cat in many ways, but misses Nettie because he misses someone to boss around, and then to cuddle with.

Well, back to work today. I am scheduled to do 1A for Opelousas (the smallest paper), but I wonder if that will happen after my problems Saturday night. We'll see.

Got some more unpacking down, not as much as I wanted, but I did get into the spare bedroom closet and nearly empty one of the wardrobe boxes (those are really big and digging into them in the closet is hard work ... close quarters and it's hot!). I'm almost done with the one box ... there are three of them, so getting done with one will open up the closet considerably for the other plastic crates in the spare bedroom (so I can walk around better).

Well, that's all that's going on with me. Have a good day.
