Hi, it's Thursday
Then I got on a cooking binge -- made cottage cheese/jello salad, guacamole, and thai chicken. The guacamole was super, but I didn't really care for the chicken -- It's ok and I'll eat it but will throw the recipe away. Watched BigBrother, then finished a book, Secret Affair by Barbara Bradford. Fell into bed at 10 and slept great.
Off to work at 8:30 this morning - Thursday/Friday I only work 3 1/2 hrs...stripped the bed and sheets are in the washer -- will dry them when I get home at noon.
It's cool and drier this morning - have the house open and it's so nice to have fresh outside air.
My DIL is seeing a neurologist -- she has some possible symptoms of MS.....sure hope it's not that. Prayers appreciated for Sherry.
Have a great day,
Pat R.

Good mornin', ya'll.
Eilleen, sounds like you are settling in well. I hope it all works out perfectly for you. As with any of you others who are starting new adventures in your lives!!
I am making quillows for my 'soon to be' great grandchildren. My DIL came by to say that a neighbor's son is outgrowing the one I made for him about 4 years ago. He wants another in NY Yankees fleece. We went to Han**** fabrics but no NY. So I ordered some online. When I was making these years ago for lots of people I could always find the pillow panels to match the fabric I had chosen. Not any more. I have to be more creative.
I also have a dress that needs to be taken in so I can wear it to my grandson's wedding. My daughter gave it to me and it is truly lovely, but too big. I had another dress picked out that was one of my very old ones, but this new one is just perfect, just too big.
And this will be a perfect day for working inside. So after an early morning trip to the gym, I'll settle into my sewing room.
Everyone have a fantabulous day!
See, I DO get up before noon!
Today I'm headed to the mall and the dreaded "Toys R Us" to hopefully find a 4th birthday gift to send to my grandson. They'll be home a couple weeks after his birthday, but I want him to have something to open from Mimi at his birthday party at his house, even if I can't be there. And I'll get him something else to open here, so I can enjoy watching him.
I see him so seldom that I have to ask my son what he likes to play with. Tennessee is SO far away.
I spent yesterday starting to set up the "garage sale from hell". It's mostly the contents of my niece's house, as she moved into a small apartment, but I have a bunch of stuff I'm putting out, in my constant quest for "less stuff". I advertised for this Saturday, and for next Friday and Saturday at the village wide sales. NOTHING is coming back into the house. For either of us.
It's still hot and humid here almost every day. We've had some rain and thunderstorms, and that's helped the yard, but the humidity has been a b***h this summer.
Everyone have a good day.

I am a newbie, I will be having my surgery on Aug. 17th. I am preparing for my 2 week pre-op diet.
Just wondering did anyone splurge before they started their diet? If so what did you splurge on?
I am open to any tips from all you veterans that will help make this journey go smoothly for me.
Thanks
Donna
You and I will share a surgery date! Mine was 8/17/07....
I did not splurge before surgery because the doc had me losing wt before so I was compliant with not eating bad stuff. I too was on a 2 week liquid pre-surgery diet --- fun fun!
Best wishes for a successful surgery and an easy recovery.....looking forward to having you join us on the loser's bench!

I look forward to being a LOSER!!!!
Welcome to our little corner of OH and congrats on your decision to change your life in ways you probably can't even imagine at the moment. . .
As for splurging, I started to change my way of eating before I had my surgery, so that after it would be less radical and hard, we are all different, but splurging is sort of the mentality we need to put behind us. Our surgery takes care of the physical ability to overeat, but there is so much more about why we got to where we needed surgical intervention in the first place, that is the hard part. In order to maintain a measure of success within the big picture of this journey, one has to really take a different tack on their relationship with food, not using it as a reward, a friend or comfort when we are down, that dear Donna will be the ultimate challenge, start to look at things now differently and it will make all the difference as you get further away from the surgery date. . .
Wishing you the best possible outcome, follow your surgeon's rules to the letter and you will do just fine, come here, ask questions and/or share bits of your journey with us, if you have it available, make a support group a routine part of your journey, not just in the beginning, but longterm and you will not only get healthier, but you will embrace this lifestyle change.

As for support meetings, I have been attending our local meeting for awhile to get familiar with all stages of this process. I actively participate in these meetings and contribute to our new Newletter "News 2 Lose".
I am thankful for all the support that I receive here on OH

I did not splurge before my surgery because my doc put me on a two-week pre-op diet. It wasn't totally liquids, but shakes, bars, soups, protein chili and spaghetti. We had a total number of points we had to get in every day, and no more than that. The stuff wasn't bad (or at least I didn't think so ... some others didn't agree ... the plan has been changed now and they have some different products). The diet was meant to get you started, help shrink the liver so the surgery would be easier. And it also meant no pre-bowel prep, which some surgeons require ... so that's a plus.
I know some who did the pre-op diet complained, but I figured it was two weeks to prepare for my new life. I had made the commitment to this new lifestyle. The hardest part for me was giving up caffeine ... they didn't tell me about that until the day before I had to do it. And I was working a shift that meant getting up at 3 a.m. I really had problems staying focused that early in the morning the first week without my caffeine ... and I was such a *****! And my body hurt a lot too ... caffeine withdrawal was tough. But the second week was much easier.
I used to go to a support group right after surgery, but then started working nights and it became difficult to get to one (because the meetings were all in the evenings when I worked). Now I've moved and am not sure if I'm welcomed in these support group meetings because some are just for their doctors' patients. And I've figured this forum is my support group. I also started seeing a psychologist before surgery and continued that until just recently when I moved to Louisiana for a new job.
Good luck to you!
