Aching LEGS

Hi I am 2 months out from RNY.  I am feeling very healthy and have lost 40lbs.  Eating is going well.  My biggest problem is having to deal with very painful, aching legs when I am trying to fall asleep.  Has anyone else felt this sensation?  Is this a common problem?

Going back to your pre-op labs, what are your levels for:
iron
ferritin
CBC

vit D
calcium
PTH

Magnesium

Thanks Michelle,

So far everything has come back fine except magnesium which is currently being investigated.  Could that cause so much discomfort?

Mag can be a big problem. However, we often get symptoms long before the blood levels drop (or rise). It's one of the things that when it says "low", it is DRASTICALLY low, but when it say ok, it can still be low.

You said ACHE. Not cramps/spasm? Ache to your bones?

I'm pretty sure vit D is not fine. No one's first test is. Might be in range, but that's not the same as fine.

That brings a question to mind for myself.  I had my annual labs done 2 yrs out.  They said they were all fine but the nut. was asking me about how much Vit. D I'm getting in a day.  I told her 2000 iu.  She said my level was normal but low normal.  I asked if I should bump it up and she said no.  I'm thinking maybe I should add a little more..  What do you think?  I also take 1600mg calcium citrate with magnesium, zinc, sl B-12 5000mcg 2xday, Vit. C 1000, Multi vitamin and a 18mg iron to boost it to 36mg / day.  I'mj feeling ok.  My doctor also just put be on a prescription folate type supplement once a day to enhance the effectiveness of a antidepressant I take.  I am tired all the time but figure it's from all the klonopin they put me on along with kicking up my antidepressant dose due to depression with anxiety.  Can they affect my vitamin levels?

You are right Michelle.  All of the results came back within the range.  I am taking 9000 IU of Vit D and had been supplementing Vit D before the operation.  My ache is to the bone.  There is no cramping or muscle spasm.  At first I thought perhaps it could be attributed to increased exercise but now I am convinced that it could be something else.  Thank you for your responses to my questions.  Know that I will have mag checked again this week.

Mag would be muscle.

Bone could be anything, but since you're getting way not enough D, my suspicion would be to look at D and calc, with the understanding that you went in deficient and it only got worse.
