Hi Clare

I did not have to do the total liquid diet prior to surgery. Just no eating the day before and of course the dreaded fleet enema.  After surgery you aren't going to want to eat for a while so no worries there. Once your appetite starts coming back you won't be able to eat much and may not be able to eat certain foods at all for a while. It's not scary, just something very new to adjust to. I don't think the cravings for your old "friends" starts till about 6 months out but usually they make you so sick you don't want them anymore.  Some people can eat a large variety of foods almost from the beginning, some like me still have problems with quite a few things.  your body will dictate what you can or cannot eat.

Good to know that the pre surgery diet varies among doctors.  I want this to be a success but i'm getting bogged down in all the details.
