i have been taking MultiVitamins for YEARS now... but i am preparing for my RNY next year and i heard that Centrum is a GOOD MultiVitamin so does anyone know for a 50yr old woman is it better to take the Regular Centrum Chewable??? or the Centrum Silver Ultra Womens???
Start Weight 275 - im 52yrs Old - 5'7"
had my RNY January 10th 2011

I've been doing NatureMade Women's 50+ ... buy one get one free. Sometimes I'll do the Walgreens version of Centrum if they're on sale for a similiar deal. Usually the silver; I never do the chewables because I don't like getting the things stuck in my teeth.
I also take iron and Vitamin C, potassium, and calcium and magnesium. My doc recently upped my calcium intake to six pills a day. Oh, and I take 1,000 B-12 and 2,000 IU of Vitamin D. Lots of supplements. Seems I'm low on everything no matter how much I take.

I tried to PM you but your profile is private. You say your labs are low no matter what you take. You might be taking the wrong stuff and not enough. I can you off the bat, taking 2000 units of vitamin D is not going to anything for you. If you have your last set of labs handy and you want some help, please PM me them. I willl be glad to go over them with you. Also list what supplements you are taking and the dosages.
My doc said Flintstones multi-vitamins. I did that for the first year or so. Then I switched to Centrum Silver. I took them for about 18 months, without telling my doc. When I finally did, he said nope, Flintstones are what you need. I had good numbers, but they were going lower. So, back on Flintstones it is.
GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!!!
please stick with the centrum silvers - they have everything you need and take 2 per day and you are golden, Flinstones are for kids not adults - they are missing most of what we need. I can almost quarantee you if you go back on the flintstones, you will end up with deficiencies - most likely vitamin A, selenium and several other minerals.
There are so many surgeons out there that just give out terrible supplement advise. They went to school to learn to cut not to learn about supplements. There are some good NUTS but unfortunately there are alot of them that arent' trained well in bariatrics either. Flintstones just dont' have what you need.
What else does he have you on? I hope calcium citrate 1500-1800mg per day, sublingual B12, carbonyl iron plus vitamin C, Dry D3 and vitamin B1.
