I drink it all day.  I switch to decaf after about 5 pm due to sleeping issues.  I didn't start drinking coffee again until about 3 months post op.  No jitters before WLS or after.

I woke up about 12:30 am and turned on the computer. I had just gone to the kitchen and made a small pot of coffee - high test, not decaf. Your post caught my eye but I didn't want to turn on the lights and wake the hubby to respond.

Before WLS I drank one cup in the morning and that was it. Now ... oh my goodness, I drink it all day and night. My daughters complain that it should be directly inserted with an IV. Female Coffee DrinkerI sleep very well too.

My advice is : follow your surgeon's instructions.

I do much more coffee post RNY than I did before. I think I'm addicted to caffeine; I formerly drank about 6 cans of diet coke daily, so I've now switched my caffeine intake to coffee. It also helps me when I want to graze, giving me something to do when bored and satisfies that oral fixation. (They operated on my stomach, not my head).

I gave up coffee like a good girl pre-op and went nearly a year before having any caffeine, then added one a day ... a Diet Coke with Lime to start my work night ... at that point. But at two years, I started drinking regular coffee again and haven't stopped. Now that I'm working nights again, I have protein coffee to start the day, followed by a second coffee, then have a trenta iced coffee (larger than a vente) at Starbucks to start my work night (too hot in Louisiana for regular coffee). Doesn't give me the jitters at all.

Giving up caffeine was a real pain ... I was a bear at work (at that time, I was getting up at 3 a.m. and into work at 4 a.m. ... not my favorite time of the day ... this shift (3 or 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. or midnight) suits me better). But I followed instructions and then gradually added back.
