Outside the Girlfriend's box of questions.
What was your favorite outfit in high school? And how about prom/bridesmaids dresses??
Well, let's see. We couldn't wear pants to school until the girls revolted in my senior year. I do remember one dress that I had, red (polyester, of course) double breasted with a wide white collar. I had a cute pair of red Mary Janes to wear with it. Then, I had a pair of bright purple hot pants (that I should NOT have worn (size 16 or so even then) with a pink long sleeved blouse and boots. I thought I looked great, but I know I didn't.
Then there was the bridesmaid dress from HELL. Hot magenta lace, short in the front, tea length in the back, size 22. I looked like one of the hippos in Fantasia. There's more, but I'll save it for another day.

We lived in a very small town with very limited shopping. My favorite outfit was magenta plaid pleated skirt with a magenta sweater. I looked GOOD in it, til I found out 2 others in my class had the same outfit!
I've only worn one bride's maid dress and I liked it. It had a panel in the back that connected to the neckline and to the hem. A year later when I got married my maid of honor was very pregnant. We had the back panel taken off and the front split down the middle and sewed the panel in. It looked very good! And my parent's didn' have to pay for another dress!!
Gonna go look for the picture and the dress. Maybe do a photo shoot.....
I went to an all-girls Catholic high school and we wore uniforms; gray tweed jackets with gray skirts with a kick pleat and gray Hush Puppies for freshman/sophomores years; then for junior/senior years, we had kelly green vests and either green tweed skirts or culottes. On Fridays, we could wear our Guerin letter sweaters. On weekends, I liked wearing jeans, but because of my size, there weren't a lot of options.
I didn't go to any proms. I was the fat girl no one wanted to ask out and everyone made fun of. Added to my low self-esteem and self-image problems (I had good self-esteem as far as my abilities went, just not my dealings with opposite sex).
Stood up for my brother's wedding (kind of asked to be a bridesmaid ... don't think I would have been asked otherwise). The dresses were actually a very pretty apricot color with flutter sleeves and a v-neck ... I was about 250 pounds at the time I think. When we were measured for the dresses at this little dress shop, the dressmaker said she would have to make my to order and I'd have to pay for extra fabric. OK, then when she got the dress in, she said she had to alter it and I had to pay for the alterations. So I paid for extra fabric and then paid for that extra fabric to be cut off. What a ripoff! We also wore this floppy hats, but the dressmaker's shop screwed those up too, overcharged, so my SIL's sister went to Kmart the week of the wedding, bought some floppy hats and ribbon and made them herself for a lot cheaper.
All of my friends who married didn't ask me to stand up for them; Debbie eloped, Rox asked me to be her photographer and only had her sister stand up for her, and Gloria knew I was in Montana and wasn't sure if I would come back for the wedding (although I did).
My Mom made both of my prom dresses -- they were beautiful. I had dates for both Jr. & Sr. but still felt like a wall flower... I was maid of honor for my sister and had to have my dress special made -- think it was a size 20...it was beautiful tho and I still have it, but I'm sure it would not quite fit me....hips are bigger for sure.
