Thought I was prepared
Received a phone call tonight from the anaethetist to discuss my pain management. Remember I am having open surgery for RNY plus removal of gall bladder. During the discussion he told me that the surgery in the upper part of the torso is much worse than the pain you get from a laparotomy.
Well I have to thank him very much for that. I have had a couple of abdominal surgeries in the past and coped with them really well so that was my approach to this surgery. Now I am a little scared. Not put off, but nervous.
Then he suggested I have an epidural for pain management. More discussion. Can still walk around but blocks upper chest pain and will have better recovery. I have never ever thought of having an epidural. The possibility scares the whoops out of me. However, on the plus side is the fact that I won't need to have narcotics which means less probability of constipation. Believe it or not that is my biggest concern about this op.
So, guess what? I am going to have the epidural! Decision made. So now I go in at 11.00 am in the morning, see him before 1.00 pm. I am the last surgery at approx 3.00 pm so I guess I won't know much until the next morning with a lot of luck.
That's it. I am off now. If I am waiting too long I might have to come on again tomorrow to check up on you guys and pass some time.

Hi
I know you are thinking and making the best decisions for yourself. Others can chime in with their opinions. You know your body better than anyone. I am sure you are making the best choices.
Peace

Kudos to your doctor for the open RNY and gall bladder removal at the same time. That's what mine did. I've not had any problems. Doctor said that while there is a 'scar', the open is better because they can see everything and we don't need the gall bladder anymore. So many people have WLS and then need gall bladder removal later.
You'll do fine. I was up and walking. It wasn't a walk in the park but it wasn't the worst it could have been.... put on your big girl panties.. it's just a few days out of your life...
You're gonna luv it.
