MEDICAL CLEARANCE FORM after LB for Dental Cleaning?

I went to my dentist yesterday for a cleaning, the first time since I had my lapband installed in Dec 2008.  I told hygienist I had a lapband - she went to the dentist. They wouldn't clean my teeth - said I needed a medical clearance because of the lapband!

I figured I should have kept my mouth shut!

I just faxed to doctor - hope I dont have to go for a visit to my primary in order to go to the dentist!

Anyone run into this?

Thanks,

K

Never had to have clearance after that surgery (didn't have lap band, though), but I do have to have antibiotics pre-procedure now that I have a knee replacement.  Maybe it's because of the foreign body (sorry, it's the only term I can think of) in your body, kinda like the knee replacement. But I don't know of anyone else who has to do that.

Hi, Eileen, I read you all the time!  Yes, you're right - because I have a foreign body in my body and also the possibility of infection.  I guess I should take antibiotics.  My dr isn't in til tomorrow hope I dont have to go to office to get the medical clearance.

I know, I went to the wrong hygienist - it was only a cleaning for goodness sake - and she said because of the bleeding.  She asked the dentist, I guess because of malpractice he might have
said yes, medical clearance, since he was asked.  Egads.
