How do I slow down my eating?

Hi All

Any tips on how to slow eating? How do you make a meal last 30 mins when you are eating such small amounts? I am really having trouble with this and I am suffering the consequences.

I feel like i need to set an alarm on my phone with 1 minute snooze and then have a bite every time I hit snooze.

I am still having trouble swallowing tablets. I have been taking anti anxiety meds of a night but i took it first thing this morning.  Well that was disasterous.  Even though it is only a tiny tablet it just sits there like a solid mass.  I couldn't eat or drink anything until 2 pm this afternoon where fortunately I was able to eat some cheese and ham.

Any thoughts?

Jules,
Have you tried eating with a baby spoon and fork?  I usually take a bite of food and then drop everything..fork or spoon down..and actually move away from my plate or bowl.  I wait almost 2 to 5 min. before next bite.  I also fine, and drs. say not to do this, but if I keep busy while I'm eating it takes me longer to eat.

  And remember chew chew chew

Jules,

You got a good response, but another one is to put your fork down in between and concentrate on chewing, even if you have to silently count to 25-50 chews until you get the hang of it.  It is not easy and truthfully, one thing I never mastered well, though in the beginning, I did it because it hurt not to. . .  I did master the chewing aspect because getting the foamies is not fun, nor is regurgatating. . .

Best wishes as you continue to learn the tricks of post-op living . . .

At first I actually did set a kitchen timer to 30 minutes when I ate....and to this day, I put my fork down between bites and chew 25 times.  I sometimes read when eating to make the time easier.     Now at 3 yrs out, we can have 20 minutes to eat, but sometimes even that is hard to do.  Our lives are so busy.

Hello Jules....you have already gotten the advice I would have given you. Just popped in to say "HI".

This eating is harder then we think. Take your time and yes use smaller silverware and put it down between bites.

Have a great day...hugs...connie d

Pills, Tablets, etc. are easy to go down when buried in something that requires no chewing like cottage cheese, greek yogurt, jello, etc.

Some days your the dog and some days your the hydrant.
